CRAZY???? want to trade my 70 T/A clone for a 79/81
I have a super clean 70 with no rust. 90 percent done. All I need to do is paint parts, body panels, put glass back in. Have all NEW parts except carpet(still need to buy). Ground up restore. MANY extra good parts. I think I got burned out. I want a car that is street ready and done. (maybe im getting old lol) So, anyone think these cars will still rise in price? I love the 79/81 body style soooo much that now I want one.
BAD MOVE???? keep it and keep going??? nobody would trade a 79/81 for a old car??? DONT DO IT, ???? lets hear your thoughts!! I need motivation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7hCXBZyxGQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZHR0RFX6aU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIuhD...feature=relmfu

|

Don't give up now, Instead of looking at all the work left to do, pick one project at a time, follow it through to completion, Seeing the project completed will inspire you to continue.
I like the instruments, by the way. What brand, model are they. The seats don't look stock, What are they.

The seats are custom stitch/design leather and are 97 trans am seats. Take a close look at the rear lower seat. custom made to look like the lower front. The reason for the custom look was made so it did not look like a stock T/A seats that are just pull outs. I guess it worked if you had to ask what seats I had. LOL. I think it was worth the $$$$$$$ Now!!!!!.
the gauges are auto meter C2 freakin awesome at night |

This is an interesting question. I watched your videos. I also own a 1981 TA and had a 1980 SE that I restored from low grade survivor to excellent cruise nite special. I also have messed around with lots of older Mopars so I know all about burn out from restoring. Right now I have the 81 TA and a 72 GTO hardtop. I think a swap is possible considering all the hard work you did. It sounds great and the new owner can paint it any color he wants. The downside? Finished 79-81 TAs aren't that cheap anymore. You can get a nice 305 TA under ten grand still, but anything Pontiac powered is getting dear.Four speed TAs even the 305 jobs are expensive now.
My thoughts are as follows. The kind of deal you want to make exists, but will require another car nut who is able to finish it himself OR likes having the work done. Both types of people exist, its a matter of finding them. The only downside to making the trade you want to make would be a loss of money from your labour. People tend to write off the labour anyway. I guess thats why it stays a hobby for us. Maybe the best way to go about this is remain flexible to what kind of 79-81 trade you want. Will you put with with getting a four speed TA that needs interior and tidy up? How about a non numbers matching W72 car? Lots of ways to go and it may take time to line up that kind of deal, but certainly do able. |

When I see a 79-81 TA I instantly think "that would make a great parts car..."
But to each their own, and if you prefer that style then this car will never satisfy you (even though it is cooler ) I agree, constantly working on these gets old, especially the older I get, it is a never ending process, but selling or trading your car in it's current state will net you less money. I would personally love to run into something like this locally, but talk is cheap and there are fewer and fewer people with the cash these days. You could always just slap the black primer on it and drive it like I do! I get to enjoy the car as is and my wife prefers the flat black look anyway, she thinks it is manly! If I had a car I couldn't enjoy due to it sitting in the garage all the time I would sell it, but that is me. I hate never ending projects. |

I might quibble with the 90 percent done part. I guess it depends on your definition of "100% done"...
Regardless, I think most folks won't find that an appealing prospect unless you offer it at a steal of a price. It looks promising, and you'll have something special when it's done, though. Just knuckle down, write out your list of mini-projects, and start knocking them off. (says the guy who hasn't worked on his birds in years.... but isn't selling them, either )

If I had the money I would find the car you want and trade, you probably wouldnt like to see what I would do with the car, but you would be at the ice cream shop in yours!

Thank You. I know what Im going to do. Im going to put my car in blk epoxy primer and drive the bitch. I can keep restoring as I go. Your pic is awesome. I have well over $14000.00 just the way it sits now. Im sure with labor it would be well over $20.000.00. I would be dumb to do it really. Looking at your car in primer really got me going now. I even like the no flares look. |

Well, "that was easy." I'm glad you found the motivation you needed.
The beauty part of satin black is you can mix and shoot it yourself. Rustoleum works well that way. |

Yea, I got way TOOOOO much cash in this thing to just let it go. I started thinking about all the little stuff I got sooo much cash in. then im like WTF. I was dumb enough to buy the $400.00 dual T/A air cleaner and so on, and so on. LOL.

please put a 7 blade clutch fan on it, 19.5 inches, that fills the shroud. The lil electric fan isnt going to pull any air all around it, wasting the efficiency of the radiator. Factory fans ( with shroud)SUCK air from the WHOLE radiator. Where you are, youll probably need it!
just an observation.... |

Great decision, slap some primer and drive it like you stole it. If that doesn't motivate you nothing will. Looks like a sweet ride and I love the look of the custom/factory seats that's some nice work. Make sure you post up some pics and vids once your out on the streets.
