2nd Gen Side Glass Adjustment
Just spent 2 half-day sessions wrestling with the door glass on the driver’s side of my 73 TA. Right now, it is maybe (likely?) as good as I am going to get it. I am completely happy with: front/rear tilt; front/rear height when fully rolled up; and inward pitch. My problem is that the glass still sits too close to the ‘A’ pillar in relation to the rear. And I am literally backed up against the furthest rear of the front-to-back adjustment slot.
This is not my first rodeo adjusting the windows on 2nd Gen F-Body cars. But I am far from a seasoned pro. I have learned along the way that every single adjustment affects every OTHER adjustment. For example, the further you pitch the glass ‘in’ toward the cabin, the higher you need to set the height stops to get the window to contact the top weatherstrip. Pitch the window ‘out’ away from the cabin, and you need to drop the height adjusters to compensate. So, does anyone who has more experience than I do have any ideas for glass that seems to ride too far forward - even with the adjusters at the furthest end of the rear adjustment slots? I may post this in the Street section as well, only because that sub forum gets a ton of traffic. THANK YOU! |

Have you installed the top seal holder and roof/ a pillar seal? I assume door is adjusted to the rear quarter?

Have you tried any using the original Kent Moore window setting block tools?

Are you using new glass or original. I have read that the new stuff can vary as far as shape goes and will affect installation.

Got her dialed in. I did not have access to a set of the GM style blocks, but Id been through the pages of the shop manual a few times. I got her centered when I slacked all of the adjustment bolts and got the window ‘mobile’ in all directions together - then worked from parallel along the top through front/rear, pitch and then height. Glass rules up and down smoothly, door closes firmly and easily. I saw a set of those blocks reproduced via 3D printing and I am intrigued! If you thought you’d be doing this more than once, you’d be glad to have a set of those in the drawer!

The blocks allow you to set the glass in accordance with original setup. They are good to know you have it all in the correct general area before any fine tuning.

Trevor,
Are you selling the blocks? I have managed to find a single Kent Moore blue block, but have been unsuccessful finding the others. Thanks |

Here are some that are 3D printed if that helps. They’re what I plan to use when the time comes.

No, I had to get a copy of the file and arrange my own to be printed. Not long after they appeared online for sale, albeit overseas. Manners would see them at least acknowledge the guy who measured up the originals, I know where they got the files, only to flog off as their own for a profit.

The way I've always done them is loosen all the adjustments roll the glass up. Then from the outside just move the glass into adjustment. Now go tighten up the adjustments without opening up the door. That will get you pretty close back and forth so just get your tilt adjustments. I've had to drill the slot sometimes to get alittle extra adjustment. Not a great design big glass lots of weak points .

I hate adjusting 2nd gen glass. They fight you every step of the way. I find getting them to roll up when the door is closed to be the toughest thing to get right.
I do as others suggested above. Loosen everything, shut the door and line it up. Tighten from inside without opening the door. Gets you in the ballpark at least.
