PHS docs
I recently ordered the PHS documents for my 71 vert, I already knew that the car was not a heavily optioned car but decided to order the docs anyway. I was sad (but not really surprised) to find that the car was originally a 350 2bbl car but also happy to learn that it was at least a true 4spd car. Anyway here are the docs, I think that I was finally able to decode everything.

It's pretty cool that they ordered a 4 speed instead of the standard 3 speed.

I thought it was a strange combination, a weak grocery getter motor with the 4sp. But times were different then and driving a stick car was more common then in todays world. I also wondered if the buyer had plans all along to swap the motor for a bigger one to race with, but if that was the goal I would have thought a hardtop would be preferred; makes you wonder.
I also thought the color combo was rather unusual with the white top, but again maybe that was more common than I am aware of. |

It has a V8 so that's a good thing.

Agreed, I knew that the 400 in the car was not original but I had hoped that the car was born with a 400 as I was sure the tranny was original from the numbers. I guess I never really thought that someone would order a 2bbl 350 car with a 4spd, would have guessed that would be mated to a 3 on the tree or auto most of the time. Of course I was young then and ordering a car with the options you wanted was easier than today where you select packages not individual items.

In a recent Smoke Signals, Mike Noun compiled 1970 production, including 350 4-speeds. They were more popular than you'd expect: 2,204.

Just got my PHS documents for my 76 Formula. What a bunch of nice guys they are to deal with. So far I have to say I really like the Pontiac community.
