He can name his price!
I was sitting in front of my GTO at a benefit show for foster children today when a man approached me and starting talking about cars. I will try to remember just what he said but I was so involved in his story that I forgot some of the details. In fact I didn't even get his name.
So, he tells me that he has a 62 or 63 Pontiac in his garage that his father bought new. Then, he laid a bomb on me. He said it was hard to find parts for it because the bumpers and hood were aluminum and some other stuff was aluminum. That is where my mind went blank for a minute. He then said it had a 421 in it with a four speed transmission and it had a 4.30 rear end that his dad swapped out for a more gas friendly gear but he still had the 4.30. Then he said he had extra parts for it and another 421 motor. My mind started to come out of the fog and I realized he was talking about a super duty car! To be honest I don't know much about them other than what I have seen here and maybe in some car magazines. Hopefully, I can find out if anyone else at the show knows who he is and can put me in touch even though I know I could never afford a car like that.

Do us a favor next time someone starts talking about 62-3 421's and aluminum, shake a hand, get a name. Thanks, Frank

Just for the heck of it what would a car like this be worth assuming it needs a full restoration?

No - there were 14 Swiss cheese cars in '63.

Did he actually say 62 or 63? Seems odd he wouldn't know for sure what year it was.

He said one or the other but I wasn't paying a lot of attention until he mentioned aluminum bumpers! Even then my old mind didn't kick into gear.

I talked to a guy 15yrs ago on the phone. He had a successful family business. He told me he had one 63 Swiss Cheese car,Knafels Tin Indian, and one 63 Tempest, cant remember if wagon or Lemans with 421 and power shift Trans. The cars were stored in a large garage. Maybe true. I've never seen them though.

I've been at every Charlotte Autofair held since around 1975. After graduating college in 1982, I started setting up as a vendor. At almost every show, I would be approached by people that either had rare cars or knew people who had rare cars. A lot of it was BS, but in some cases I obtained some leads that paid off handsomely. It takes a lot of time to follow up on leads, but sometimes it is well worth it.

OK. I made contact with the owner. It is a 62 so, not a Swiss cheese car. I got his number and hope to go see it on a weekend in the near future. Still has the 421 and four speed in it but the whole rear end was changed out to a 3.56 one from a Grand Prix. I will post some pictures as soon as I can go see it. Probably won't be this weekend because I will be at the Moultrie swap meet looking for Pontiac parts.
