Am I wrong or is this one beautiful original car. I know it is hard to tell by pictures, but this car seems to have everthing that came with the car that usually gets lost over the years. All the chrome, side splitters, original rims, uncut dash, original radio, dual snorkel, jack, original sticker and possibly original paint.

Phil

AGREED, LOOKS ORIGINAL, rear window will need reseal, possibly new filler panal, the usual lip rust under doors, body appears straight without a lot of curb or parking lot damage, even front valance looks complete and straight. nice car to resto if floors are as solid. little too far away for my interest but should fetch between what? 6 - 8 grand??

I'd agree, nice daily driver or good base for restoration. Looks like everything is there and un-touched.

Judge273, that's one gorgeous '72 GTO!

Kinda partial to '72's (see sig).

Here's mine at the 2005 PSN show at Sewell Pontiac, two weeks after I bought it. One of my techs drove it up there from Houston for me while I towed my blue Formula (for the drags).

This pic was taken before I changed to the correct repro Goodyear Polyglas GT G60's.

Ram Air was not exclusive to the HO on the GTO. In fact I think you could get it with any of the V8's when the endura option was ordered. Not the first time I have seen it.

Hey Jack - I differ with you concerning the availability of Ram Air on any engine besides the 455HO on '72 GTO's and LeMans.

Attached is a scan of the original window sticker from my WW5 car, and it shows "Hood Ram Air" as included with the WW5 package. UPC code WU3 and order code 601.

Of course we know that Ram Air WAS indeed a mandatory "option" on ALL 1972 455HO engines for LeMans, GTO and Formula Firebirds.

The second scan is from my 1972 Pontiac dealer showroom order guide, showing the LeMans order checklist. There is NO 601 order code nor WU3 UPC code listed anywhere.

Hmmmmmmmm . . .

Lloyd,

Not disputing what you are saying but can't read LeMans order form. Even when I blow it up after downloading it. Just a couple of questions. Not that familiar with some of the codes. What is the WW4 option and what option code was for the endura nose? Could you e-mail me the option list? jlpeters1@juno.com Thx. It says the WW5 & WW4 options are explained on the back.

I found when I ordered the '71 that by talking to the dealer and letting him know exactly what I wanted that 'special' items could be ordered. I think we all have learned to never say never. All of mine was just a regular order. Sure liked the fact in '71 you could order the 455HO w/o the endura nose. I didn't care for the new nose in '71 as well as the non-endura nose. But that is strictly a personal taste.

Trying to remember what I saw back in the day......well that WAS 33-34 years ago. That is older than many members of the board. LOL

These kinds of discussions serve to clarify things and further the hobby.

I've seen uncountable plain jane T41 LeMans' and regular GTO's listed for sale that the seller states "Ram Air". To most uninformed sellers, the scooped hood with open inserts means Ram Air, LOL!

Oh, and since you like the extractors (LOL), here's a closeup of mine, with the correct G60's!

Hey Jack:

E-mail sent. Didn't mean to diss you, BTW. Like you said, we've all learned to never say never when it comes to these old Pontiacs!

Here's the second page of the '72 LeMans order form, which spells out what's included in the option groups - WW4, WW5, etc.

BTW, I'm betting that the WW4 package is MUCH more rare than even the 290 WW5 cars built! Anyone have THAT info???

As a side note - really belongs in the '70-'73 'bird section, I also looked through the '72 Firebird order form, and no Ram Air option is listed there either!

I didn't think the 140 mph speedo was avail in '72.... was it? I put one in mine, but thought it was incorrect.

According to my trusty "GTO Recognition Guide" (Paul Zazarine), "some 1972 GTOs built before January 1 1972 have the 140 mph speedometer as used in the 1971 GTO".

Correct!

It's been fairly well confirmed and documented that all 1972 GTO's with a build date on or after January 1, 1972 received the 120 MPH speedo. This change was made to accomodate the government mandated seat belt warning lamp, along with the brake system warning lamp.

Just checked, mine has the 120 MPH speedo - 12C build date.

I'm kind of embarrassed to show my WW5 here but I wanted to share it with you guys. I got the car in '86 from a girl who was local to the area, drove it around a few years and it's been sitting in my yard since '90. Haven't had much time/money to work on it since then due to buying a house and other things but at least it's mine and ready/waiting for a restoration. I took the HO air cleaner off and tucked it away where it's safe. Go to this link http://www.pbase.com/gto1970/toys&page=all and go down to image IMG_1133 (do a control F and type in 1133) and you'll find about 6 rows of pictures.

oh that poor car. Still looks to be in relatively good shape though, considering. I used to have a '72 GTO, 455 HO/4 spd car - NOT the WW5 option, but similarily equipped. Shoulda kept that one...
