New Member and his 71 LeMans Sport
What a nice forum! So much info to digest...I am new to the Pontiac Scene as I have 2 Camaros as well 1968 and a 2010..both blue.
When I found this 1971 LeMans Sport in Elwood, Indiana, I knew I had to have it. I would like to start a "Build Thread" on her, but did not see any such forum. Here are just a couple of photos the way we brought her home. I have since begun to disassemble her for the rebuild. I would like to post ongoing photos as I make progress. Please let me know if I am within the boundaries of doing this! Thanks again, Kurt L71S |

We started ripping her apart just about as soon as we got her home! I had rebuilt our 1968 Camaro Sport Coupe the same way, so I figured why not try a Pontiac LeMans...can't be that tough, right?....

I had some wonderful help on this car just like Grandpa's 68 Camaro....Our Son-in-law Clint Minglin and our Grandson Jackson Edward!...
I need to mention that this car is an Indiana car...that being said, I crawled under it with a fine tooth comb and found only 2 little rust holes from the interior....That is unheard of! All of the original fuel, brake lines were intact with their fasteners as well... My plans for this car is a complete frame rebuild with new tank, lines, 4 wheel disc conversion from Pirate Jack Hot Rod...with red calipers!..... Then off to the body shop for a fresh coat of 1989 Chevrolet Blue, along with new bumpers and chrome emblems. After that, I am going to replace the entire white interior with new from top to bottom.... This sounds like a bunch of work...and it will be!! But the end result will be so worth the effort and money. Stay tuned for more on this project....I am open to suggestions along the way, so don't hesitate to speak up.... Regards, Kurt L71S |

Maybe just one more today to help get caught up a little. Fast forward some...Removed the engine (350), and Trans (TH350), began cleaning the frame and doing some inspection....She's clean from end to end....So stoked on this LeMans!
I pointed out some of the weld lines on the frame....hand welded back then....some of the wire was STILL on the welds... Removed the tank! Did not find a build sheet....Boo!! Kurt L71S |

Thanks Joe! That is what caught my eye...The blue and the white interior! I have always wanted a car with white interior...
I almost installed white in my 68 Camaro....but decided against it...

Looking at the pics you have a fine example of a restorable car there. You got lucky!
Guard that front bumper with your life, they are kind of tough to come by. The rear ones you can get easily, those fronts are few and far between. (I had one swapped when I took my original to a rechrome shop, was NOT happy) If you're going to have it painted, you might want to consider dropping the frame and having it powder coated, it's not that bad to do. .

I already have split the frame and the body. I am now replacing all the bushings along with all brake and fuel lines and return lines. The frame is now painted and ready for me to start the reassembly...

As I progressed some, I ordered ALL new Moog ball joints, bushings for upper and lower A arms, rear upper/lower Control Arms. We sure want her to ride and drive like a new one!...
Had to, at the same time purchase a few new tools to do the work. Control Arm Bushing tool, floor press, Ball Joint press and Removal tool...

I had a visit from Clark Gick of Basic Body & Paint, Inc. in Chalmers. He looked "Blu" over and gave her the thumbs up for some new paint!....
I am beyond stoked! He told me that this car is so nice for being an Indiana car and also being a 1971! That's all I needed to hear. I started ripping the undercarriage apart! Getting ready for another 4 wheel disc brake conversion! Even though Pontiac was part of GM, things are so different from Chevrolet! Seems like everything is on the "other" side from what the Camaro is...Oh well....One never wants to quit learning!...

Welcome to the forum!
Great looking car! Neat to see some of your work on a '71! I would like to do a few things to my Lemans in the near future so I'll be keeping tabs on yours! How long have you had it? Tyler
