I've been looking for a decent Q-jet or a nice core on ebay lately and I occassionaly see these "new" in box Q jets. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...950794149&rd=1 Does anybody know where these new carbs came from? Would it be a bad idea to just bolt this on or wait till Cliff's line cools off for the summer?

Cliff definitely is a great guy...had him rebuild the carb for my GTO a few years back. He has a reputation for being highly professional and honest, so I don't think you need to worry about getting your original carb back, you will.
If you don't want to wait, there are other people who do this. A guy on the CP site, who posts inder the name "carbking" has a website for his business. He offers a dazzling array of services, and his site is pretty professional looking. Don't have any first-hand knowledge of his work, though. Here's the link: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/ Others might think differently, but I like the Edelbrock Performer carbs, too. I installed a 750cfm unit, w/electric choke on my 455 GP, and it performed excellently out of the box,in all weather conditions. Good luck.

I almost got one of those carbs.I decided to go with a Holley Street Avenger.
What if you don't want to send a core. That's the original carb from the car "69 GP-7028263". Does Cliff rebuild yours if you send it in. When I took my unmolested 69GP XF/428 #62 heads in to get rebuilt, They tried to swap another set. The guy actually raced 62's and thought I wouldn't notice. I marked the heads & he got canned.

an NOS carb will not work any better than a junkyard carb if it is not the "correct" carb for your motor. It will not be calibrated correctly and your engine will most likely not respond favorably. If you are not wanting to wait for Cliff's service (which is well worth the wait!) I would suggest an aftermarket carb such as a Holley or an Edelbrock AFB. Better yet, send Cliff a good core and pick up a carb to use in the meantime...

There may be some stashes of AC Delco replacement Q jets around "new in box" or possibly some Edelbrock Qjets that are new.That's how I got my first 455 SD replacement Q jet, a guy that bought up a bunch(then I oreder 2 extra at HiLo!).Still got one "new in box" also.

Ah, Hell... No guts, no glory, right? If it was me and the price was right, just buy it and bolt it on! You could always give it the standard soft parts rebuild, and then you could "tune" it to a factory spec (i.e. jets, rods, power piston spring) that closely matches your engine combo. It may be cheap on parts, but valuable in the experience department!

Cliff is a straight-up guy. If you sent him a RAIV carb, you'd get the same one back, only better than new.
