1970 dash board texture
I got pics back from just dash in LA California and they clain to have correct grain texture for a 70 71 dash board they call it fine comb texture I posted some pics . Does this look correct? Advise please. I realize it's more that AL knotch but I want correct texture. Dash restoration claims they can match exact texture too but haven't seen his work. Please shed light on this. Only other option I got is to go complete 72 up texture on entire dash and if I go that route will need a complete dash boards ash tray glove box and column. Thanks in advance and Facebook group says its a match

I used Just Dash for my 1970 Firebird with the Sandlewood interior. They correctly matched the dash to the darker tone used for that interior color and the texture looked perfect. That being said, it was 9 months for the work to be done.

Was finally able to get down to the restoration shop and take these photos of the dash cover texture on the one for my 1970 Firebird. Just Dashes in California was the supplier.

And did the grain change for the plastic and metal finishes or just the vinyl used for dash?

When I blow up the actual photos, the grain pattern is the same on the dash, glovebox door and steering column valence panel.

Makes sense, couldn't see them changing them. There was a reference to need these parts swapped if dash changed, they wouldn't have been a match anyway to that level.

The grain
Then yours is a correct restoration of the 70 dash? I learned 72 in up same. 70 71 same if I'm wrong please correct me I m not an expert.i have seen the 72 style texture on a 70 and it appears that texture has more depth than 70. When reinstalling ash tray glove box ect it does flash a bit . Hmmm you got Avery nice dash board!

The thing I didn't like about the job that Just Dashes did for me on my 1971 dash was they left the leading edge of the dash WAY too thick if you look through the front window. They originally tapered to a fairly thin edge along the top leading edge. At Just Dashes they built up this area with new foam but didn't sand it down nearly enough (or at all) to make that a tapered edge. Result was that the leading edge is much, much too thick to resemble original. I sent the dash back to them at their expense for them to re-do it the right way. I think they just sent it back to me without doing anything but told me they had fixed it. I received it back exactly the same as it was when I sent it back to them to fix their work.
This problem they have is so common that 2ManyTA's would frequently point it out to people who have gotten their dash back from Just Dashes. |

Here's a deeper view of mine. It was the single most expensive component of my restoration - $1850. They had to repair the lower metal bracket below the steering column, and the color match added to the base price as well.
