Besides going to a solid motor mount or strapping down the motor is there a motor mount made that won't separate with 400 plus HP?

If you are using the older "rubber block" mounts they sell whats called a mity mount for ~$100+, its basically a stock mount with a bolt through the center... or do what I did and make your own for the price of a grade 8 bolt an an hours worth of time drilling and tapping the mount. Has help up with 500+hp & lots of low 11sec runs... I did install a limiter chain just in case the mount breaks but after about 7 years with lots of street use its doing fine. I have a 2nd gen Fbody but they sell the mounts for other cars too, think there was a write up on making a stronger Abody mount too.

The new AMES one is not a mighty mount. Call them and ask about them, they sell basic, mighty mount, and then the lifetime warranty ones

I'm using these from Butler at around 500 hp and so far so good. They are really stiff. Functions almost more like a solid mount I think but doesn't feel rough or harsh driving it.

I just installed the Torque-Lok engine mounts in the 70 A-body, and they are very nice. Very little room for movement, and isolated against vibrations. Has a positive lock built in, embedded in the rubber. The durometer value of the rubber is much tougher too.
They are a little more effort to install, engine needs to be aligned properly to allow the mounts to seat, which is very beneficial. Not like the Anchor ones at all when it comes to just about every aspect of function, way way better. Oh, and they allow the centerlink to be properly clearanced, no contact whatsoever with oil pan. .

The new ones listed in the Ames catalog are called 'Torq Lok' mounts. The description states it's the highest HP mount on the market aside from solid mounts.
I would have gotten a set if I had noticed they were available when I purchased my mity mounts. .

All the poly ones get eaten up by heat and crumble if you run headers.

Thanks for the replies, I am aware of the Butler poly mounts but they are heat sensitive and with my RA/HO manifolds don't think they would work. I may try the Ames life time warranty mounts. Wanted to see what was available as new stuff comes out from time to time.

Butler has a warning about using them with headers.
"If using headers, ceramic coated headers are highly recommended AND/OR a heat shield or header wrap to keep heat away from the Poly mounts as excessive heat may cause the poly to melt or deteriorate." I have about 1700 miles with RA manifolds and no problems.

Mine have been on the car for a few years now with 1 7/8 headers. One of the tubes is 1/8 inch, at best, from the metal mount frame on the pass side. ![]() I have at least a few thousand miles on this thing. It`s not a daily driver but I do use it as much as I can. And it gets used in the hot ambient temps we usually have down here. I look at em at oil changes since my a$$ tightened up after seeing the warning. So far, I see nothing. No bulging, cracking, etc. |
