No not really . But as a machinist at a company that is also a foundry making die castings. It is everyday life trying to figure out ways to make it faster/cheaper just to stay remotely competitive.

I would think that you could make the 3.0 and the 3.25 mains and both the Pontiac and the BBC rod journal sizes from the same forging. As for what is the most popular stroke I would say first 4.25, then 4.21, then 4.0 or 4.5, then 3.75. I can't see them selling for more than $700.

I'd pay $800 for a forged crank no problem; however, I'm wanting one with a 4.25" stroke or maybe 4.375". I'm still relatively new to building Pontiacs but I think there may be a bigger demand for longer strokes, as most cranks aren't being raced full time. They're going into street, street / strip, & part time bracket racing engines, where--I think--people want bigger engines.

Most of the people I know are building 46x cid engines with 4.25" stroke Eagle cranks. I think a longer stroke forged crank would sell better than a shorter stroke version.

There's my two-bits.

There is no volume in the Pontiac market. That's why a forged crank could not be comparable in price to a Chevy.

If they were reasonable I'd buy one. It's unfortunate that you can get a forged SBC or BBC crank for under 500 but none are made for Pontiac.

You guys are dreaming if you think anyone will ever produce a forged Pontiac crank for $700 or less.

Just got off the phone with Dave Crowler about Billet Cranks and there will be a surprise in about 2 weeks. (Low price) Talked to him on the phone about forged and said there is nothing in the works for them unless there would be a call for 200 or more and maybe he would think about it.

I am not a expert but I do know that Gary McGlasson who build my engines has his act together and if you need a engine build and you qualify for Gary's expertise then he will build you a Motor thaty flys.
case closed as I am lol
His Phone number is 505-865-0059 . By the way don't leave your number for Gary to call back as he works 24/7 and you must call him until you get Gary live . Lol

Chinese where the heck do you get that from? They are not getting it from China.

It was already established earlier in this thread that the steel was coming from a foreign source. Are you privy to information otherwise?

Yup, Crower said last year they would do one after they did some for Ford, probably by the year 2039.

Not that they're working on one, but I think you would sooner see one from AllPontiac before you'd see one from anyone else.

the other reason is we cant decide what would be the best one to make!It cost a lot of money to tool up and machine a forging. No one wants to have a bunch of diff combos on the shelf hoping that someone will buy one.The billet guys are selling cranks as fast as they can make them.WHY would anyone that is trying to make any kind of return on investment do a forging for our hobby?

my thoughts exactly...seems like we have a 3 or 4 page thread on this subject every few months!

Rumair they are all talk, theres a forged crank on Ebay now and instead of buying it they sit back and talk about it.

"There are 4 way to make a crank:
1. Cast N Cranks Nodular
2. Forged EN7 or 4140
3. Cnc Machined
4. Cast Steel 4150 Why are there none of these in the market? Did Ford try this process? Please fill me in."

One more way Bob, the Moldex way:

Carve it out of a hunk of billet using non CNC
machines, custom "one off" fixtures, and years
and years of experience making and grinding
cranks for everyone in the business one crank
at a time.

I talked to a crank guy today and he told me I
should talk to our materials people about your
question.
