9” rear swap and driveshaft length
The time draws near that I’ll be replacing my entire drivetrain in my ‘69 LeMans factory 4 speed post car from fan to rear with mostly new everything. 455, Muncie, and a Quick 9” rear. The one item I haven’t given as much as a sideways glance at is the driveshaft. Planning to get it balanced, new U joints and powder coated, but I believe with the 9” swap I’ll also need to have it shortened a bit. I will measure but wondering how much is average chop? Thanks, ‘Vid

With a Quick Performance 9" in my '66, the drive shaft needed to be longer, not shorter. It measured out to 60.25" center to center with the yoke pulled out about 3/4". Stock is 59" and change for my car.
So, you won't really know what you need to do until you get the new rear end in your car.

Interesting… Can’t wait to get it all together and measure it up. Did you go with a whole new driveshaft or lengthen your existing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm actually going to be ordering my drive shaft from a local company this week. My old drive shaft was junk and wouldn't have worked with my 1350 u-joints anyway.

Have 9" in my 1967 GTO. I used the original driveshaft even though it was a little short for years until I finally replaced it. Not a recommendation just a fact to show difference in length.
