Default Sad fate of a Cars 'n Coffee

We have a Cars 'n Coffee here in Albuquerque that was a real gem. Despite being started by a group of Porsche and Corvette waxers it evolved into something eclectic: Dauphins parked next to Gull-wings across from Chevelles. You had your frequent flyers and stuff that showed up comet-like: once every couple years.

I really liked it and being on the way to my shop did not hurt one bit. This Spring it really started to grow and the issues started sadly familiar to those who know - the show offs, Burnouts, flat-hat passes and other hoonery cropped up. Discussions were had to remedy this, the main idea being simply chipping in a few bucks for a couple of APD units for overwatch on Jefferson St.

What we got yesterday was a classic example of chasing a fly with a jackhammer. The parking area was roped off and a couple of security people were foisting applications on attendants. As you see they wish to know:

Name
Address
Email
NM drivers licence number
Insurance carrier
Their number
Vehicle(s)

and the best part is that you need 2 other placarded attendants to vouch for you. Catch 22's Great Loyalty Crusade indeed.

Needless to say I invited them to kiss my ass - the whole concept and execution were rife with goose-stepping idiocy, not to mention it would not do a damm thing to stop showboating on Jefferson and the Excel sheet would be a real plum to any identity thief.

No doubt the waxxer control freaks who dreamt this up did not bother to fill out their own forms as none of the Corvettes or Porsches had placards.

rant off

My guess is that somebody's car was damaged and the hosts got sued.

I do not think so here.

Nobody mentioned any accident. I am surprised the property owners still allow this CNC, most would have simply tossed it.

I also wonder who is paying for all this - there were 5 police units parked in the lot (lotta good that does..). They were off duty but paid to be there - not cheap.

As an aside, they owner of this placarded Corvette was swanning around with a shirt sporting a picture of an assault rifle and the caption "I will not comply".

I am sure the Irony God was wincing somewhere...

Surprising to me that it’s a ‘Nam Guy who had the placard. I love the fact those guys usually give stupid reg’s the “one fingered salute”.

Great aliases for the applications!

If you don’t like the way someone else’s is run, you can start up a new one somewhere else.

An M16 and an ar15 are NOT the same thing, but how could you tell it was an M16 without pulling the bolt group?

It sounds like ( from what you said yourself) you guys caused your own issues complaining about these guys and it backfired.

I’d say get a group together and buy the parking lot and then you can do what you want, Funny how mandates and invading privacy is good for SOME things and not others?
maybe get CNN to do an expose?

You cannot tell if an AR15/M16 rifle is full auto by the bolt carrier. A lot of semi-auto AR15's have a "full auto" bolt carrier. When the M16 is used in training and some competitions there is a stamped metal piece that is sandwiched between the lower and the pistol grip that will prevent rotation of the selector past semi. It's similar in design to the tab put in Firebird Qjet carb linkage that only allowed them to open 90%. There's a good chance that our Navy vet may have fired one of these M16's in qualifications with the full auto blocking tab in place.

I run M16 BCGs in all my ARs.

My local C&C has grown substantially over the years. There's gotta be 600+ cars regularly.

Last year they tried pulling some chit, wanting people to sign up for a membership to go to the event. They tried selling it as something cool, and said it'll include more things than just going to the show. Everyone hated it, called them out on it, and the people who host the event got all pissy and said it's not mandatory. They called everyone haters lol

Local Tire Rack warehouse used to have a nice C&C. But since Covid a few years ago, they haven't hosted one. Had a few azzhats with burnouts, flying down the street, etc, but most everyone was well behaved. Another place where you could see a Ferrari parked next to a Crosley.
Studebaker National museum has started having them. They're located in a closer to downtown neighborhood, so not much opportunity to get wild.

uhm, i thought all M16s were capable of full auto. Unless the Bolt was modified/replaced to block the gas pasages.

You would need to ask the Chief Gunner's Mate running the range about that, but given this was late Summer '82 he is long gone.

And to be honest firearms bore the **** out of me.

Scarebird, my apologies for diverting your topic towards the semantics of "assault weapon". I agree with not following in lock step with the new order. I also agree with the irony that you noted.
The sad fact is that many businesses are so afraid of injury liability that they won't associate with the car owner crowd. I've seen it happen here in my city.
