My first Pontiac
Been lurking on this site for a little while and finally decided to join.
Been around Pontiacs for a long time but never owned one myself. Have quite a few friends with Poncho's. I have had a little bit of everything from Fords, Mercurys, Chevys, Oldsmobiles and Mopars. Had been looking for a 73-75 Cutlass as that was my high school ride. I ended up finding a 75 Grand Prix instead that was here in Wisconsin but orginally from Tennessee, so its pretty clean. I plan on building a 455 for it out of my friends cast off parts. ~Jay |

Nice ride. I have a soft spot for GP’s. I owned a couple way back when. ‘73-75 are my favorite body style.

That color might not be for everyone but I love it. When I had a newspaper route in the mid seventies, my regional manager had a '74 Monte Carlo that color.

Welcome! I also have a soft spot for 73-77 GP's, probably owned 10 of them in the 78-90 time frame. The only thing they really need is about 100 more HP, but swapping out the steering box for a late 70's T/A box, (not the WS6 box but the standard box) and the 1 1/4" front sway bar from a WS6 T/A they become really nice drivers, and handle quite well.
Good Luck with it!

That is good info on the box and sway bar. It definitely doesn't handle as well as the Oldsmobiles did. But all the brands ran their own setups. Crazy to think but there were 87 different suspension setups between the years, brands and models.

Nice! That color really brings back memories of the seventies for me. Rarely seen today. I'm liking it!

Good score! Always glad to see the mid 70s stuff get some press!

Welcome aboard Jay.
I got tired of running boxed headers...tried all kinds.....they rot out way too fast for my taste. Went custom stainless the last go-round. Done in the car by Joe @ JW Racing + Fabrication in CT. You can get a closer view of the headers in the build thread link in my signature. The heads are indeed Kauffman D-ports. In there since 2009 and reworked once by SD Performance in 2015 or so. Fantastic head IMO. If I had to do it again however, a round port would have been a better choice for my desired ET and power goal.

I have several friends that are Pontiac guys so building this with their cast off parts. One of them is in the process of building a 400 stroker, should be something like a 488. He is using the Kaufman 365cfm High Ports. He hopes to be at 650hp at the flywheel. He will be using the Northwind intake though so he can keep it under the stock 68 GTO hood.

That's awesome! I had a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme about a decade ago: But honestly... that generation of Pontiac GrandPrixs is my absolute favorite. The one in the picture looks like a 76-77, but I may not really know my GPs. It's such a bad-ass body-style though. I mean, it's enormous, but you could get them so totally loaded. Looking through some of the old Pontiac catalogs... these Pontiacs when loaded, looked like luxury apartments on wheels. Huge pillow-top seats front and back... man... nice score! |

My Grand Prix is a 75. The 73-75 has round headlights, 76-77 had square headlights. I prefer the 75 and down. I like the round headlights.
