Pontiac oil tech 1931
Thought I'd share a picture of the inside of a Pontiac 6 cylinder circa 1931...
Noteworthy approach to oiling. First off the oil pump is submerged in the bottom of the pan. Oil gets plumbed to filter mains and cam. The pan is baffled around the pump and a windage tray is part of the pan baffling. Not many vehicles this vintage had this level of tech. As late as the 50's some were still dip n splash(Chev 6)!!! The pan is pretty shallow. Was the block a skirted design?

Block is skirted. Only 3 mains though. Pan is approximately 5 " deep and dipstick is marked 3,4,5, and 6 quarts. These motors are rather long. It also uses 2 cylinder heads. I suspect for durability.

Photo 0f screens & oil pump gasket
For those of you that are interested, here are some shots of the pan with the original screens installed. They seem to have been tack welded to the pan. I didn't want to fuss with having to replace mine, so I did the best I could cleaning them. I've also include a photo of the oil pump felt gasket for reference.
