421 SD repo intake project
I thought I would start a shorter thread for all the guys interested in buying a early and late style intake.
John came to my house today with a finished machined intake to test fit on my 62 389 engine. It was better than we would have even hoped for for the first machining sample. One issue we found is the casting did not allow for a blind threaded hole for the doughnut draw up bolt. That will be addressed in the casting.Another issue I forgot about is the second to the last intake bolt on the pass side(last bolt on late style)will need a threaded stud to get by the port and put a nut on.It will be furnished with every intake. The ports were better than any after market intake for matching. Will get good pics next time when we can put light in them.Pics to follow.Tom |

(1) Mike, would like to know "How many Ponies will I get over my current HP level? (2) Is It required to Port match my "D"- Port Heads to the Bath Tube Manifold from the start? (3) Here is a better description of my existing set up: Since I have a 1979 TA Scoop, open toward the Windshield, over the existing Tri-Powers on top of my 1976 Formula Hood and the "Poor designer" before me, "did not" account for the forward most Carb. height (the Scoop should have been installed more forward to fit correctly) I use a small Filter on top of the forward Carb. The Center and Rear Carb. clear well. That being said, I run a 1979 Pontiac TA with the 428 HO. "Will I have any issues fitting the Air Filters, if I go with the 409 carbs"? What is the 409 Carb? "Is it an exclusive type, just for the Chevy 409"? Do I have a second practical choice to Carburation? Last edited by TRADERMIKE 2012; 02-25-2022 at 06:59 AM. |

LOL! True!
I have a long list of reason not to. Like I have a big pile of parts to buy to get my car back together. |

Don't feel bad, I have to rebuild the TH400 on my Vehicle and I am reading all my saved files in order to accomplish this task. My roommate is doing the same thing. Soon we will watch some Videos and build our confidence up. I have the parts to rebuild it, but I am sure we will find some hard parts inside to replace. This is first in my priorities and foremost. |

Fantastic progress! I can’t wait to see some of these manifolds showing up on cars. Tom, out of curiosity, how many manifolds are you planning to cast and is it a one time only run?

Tom can you put a straight edge across the carb pads and measure down to the block at the valley pan lip front and rear and I can add it to the list here. Be interesting to compare it.
I'm still in for a late model head one!! http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=Intake+height
