Is it specific to an HO motor or a specific part number?

another question though. I see that you could not get ac with a ram air 4 engine, but I believe that the 73-74 trans am super duty would use the same ac bracket, correct? so that would mean the 71-72455ho and 73-74 SD would use this bracket, correct?

My belief is the entire clearance issue has to be more related to the valve cover clearance issue, as D-port engine factory dual snorkel 1.5" drop base aircleaners were fitted on '70-73 D port engine Formulas, as well as '73 455 Dport TransAms, & the much more common rear AC bracket was used with these engines (at least on fairly original engines I've examined). Conversely, the '71 dual snorkel 455 HO A-body dual snorkel air cleaners (even though only 1/2" drop base aircleaners) when factory installed on '71 455 HO AC cars, still were teamed with the special '71-72 HO rear AC bracket.

I used a 70 rear bracket with the 72 HO intake ion my 78 TA but the Shaker base is not close so it worked fine not needing the extra dip.

ok thanks for the info ol pinion head! I can also say that looking at my d port 1973 intake vs the 1971 factory HO intake, the front mounting bolt boss on the intake is in a slightly different location as well.
