Default Air Injection Reactor

Does anyone have a picture of the complete set-up of a 67 Air Injection Reactor system. 2nd question, where will I find one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Poncho

I quickly looked through my digital pictures and found this from the 2004 GTOAA show. I really have no idea if the smog setup on this car is correct or not. Maybe the owner of this car frequents this board?

I will look through my other resources to see if I can find some other info/pictures.

Default Vintage photo

I found this picture in a 1967 issue of "Road Test Magazine" where they compared the new GTO, SS 396, GS 400, 442, Fairlane GTA, Comet Cyclone, Coronet R/T, Plymouth GTX, Rambler Rebel. It's not a very good photo but figured you wuld like to see it anyway.

This photo is from a 1967 issue of Car Life magazine. It's not very detailed but I thought I'd post it anyway...

Small world this GTO hobby. That's my car (nice pics BUQUICK). It's pretty correct for the A.I.R. parts, but not a concourse restored car, i.e. not all plating is dead nuts. If you're looking for an A.I.R. system, and have nothing to start with, watch E-Bay, I see maybe one per year. Some parts are still available. I think you can still get the pump and check valves from online parts stores. I've been looking for a very good used or NOS diverter valve for awhile and haven't found one. The air cleaner assy comes up on E-bay occassionaly. You can buy the top new repro. The vent tube to the valve cover can be tough to find. The sticker for the air cleaner and the emissions sticker on the radiator support are both available from Jim Osborn Reproductions, use google, he has a web site, then call them. The stickers aren't in their online catalog, but they do have them. The washer bottle mounts on the passenger side of the radiator suppport (the same bottle as all 67's) but has an additional bracket to mount it, also made of unobtainium. A friend fabricated mine. More questions? Get a '67 assembly manual, it'll show you what you're missing. Need pics or more info?, ask. By the way, those pics from Car Life above are a Ram Air A.I.R. car. Very rare. I saw one in person a few years back and snapped some pics in case I want to try to add Ram Air the hard way. Looking at those two B/W pics above, I noticed an interesting detail, that I'm sure if you showed a car in concourse that way, points would be deducted, but I wouldn't doubt that they were shipped that way. Both cars have the washer tube that runs across the front of the radiator support over to the washer bottle laying on top of the battery. The other thing I notice is no Caution Fan label on either. The Ram Air car does have the emissions sticker in the same place as mine is. That location is shown in the assy manual.

Ron, Even among the sea of GTOs at the 2004 GTOAA show, yours stood out to me because it was the only '67 I saw with the air pump. When I took the photo you were probably close by since the engine is running in the picture. The pictures of your car have actually been reduced in size from the original so that I could post them here. If you want me to email you these in full size send me your email address and I'll send them. I took a couple hundred photos that weekend and it makes for a neat slide show.

Poncho, The setup probably won't be super expensive, but will take some time to find. Makeby contact some of the west coast Pontiac parts folks that have parted out some of the cars from the CA area.

Thanks Gary, if you don't mind, send the photos to rcozzo@earthlink.net . You're right, I was close by, standing at the rear actually. I had the engine running because I had volunteered my car for the Pypes display as I had just installed those last spring. There's a lot of CA cars out there, but most of the smog set ups are long gone. I was lucky to find my car unmolested and I like the uniqueness of it, at least it's unique here in the Midwest. You're right, the parts don't go for huge prices, just hard to find.

Gary, at the risk of polluting this thread. I checked out your web site. Very nice work. One question, the A/C muffler on the '69 GTO, how did you get it to look like that, that's one, of many, areas of my car on the list of improvements.

I'm definitely no expert, but I believe the '67 GTOs SOLD in California were required to have a "smog pump"

Default 67 A.I.R pump

My '67 Ca car came with the set-up, I've long since removed it (the vanes went out and it began squealing and ceased to work as a pump, but at about the same time the Ca DMV stopped requiring the '67s to be smogged so I didn't bother trying to have it repaired.) Anyway it sits out in my garage...let me know if you need them as I could go a snap some digital pics of the unit and its brackets etc.

Jim.

My 66 CA model GTO was equipped with A.I.R. when I purchased it.

I recently purchased a one owner '66 Lemans from San Diego. It has the complete AIR system on it. Some years back, I had a '66 GP that also had the same system.
In '64 and '65, they didn't have the pump etc, but the did recirculate the crankcase venting back into the air cleaner.

Just in case anyone's planning on buying an original smog setup for their '66 or '67 you should note that the '66 AIR pump setup is quite different in function and appearance from the '67. You can use the Big Car units on the A bodies of their respective years.

Poncho,
Have a complete '67 LeMans-GTO smog pump set-up at the warehouse & it is for sale. Will need to find the rubbermaid tub these parts are in, & take pics. Did not get an aircleaner with this set-up, but may have one. Feel free & drop me a PM.

Wow. A Ram Air '67 with disc brakes. How neat is that? I also see that the RA car uses a heater hose bracket for an A/C car. Did all A.I.R. cars get this, or maybe this just happened to get changed?
