Performer RPM center divider mod. ???
i'm cutting down part of the center divider, to clear the throttle blade of a holley 3 bbl. so far, it's been marked off and a notch has been roughed in. since the top of the notch will now see some air/fuel flow, i'm wonder how to finish it off. i would think, it should be at least rounded. maybe a little knife edged would be good (don't want it too thin and risk it flaking). maybe it doesn't matter and leaving it square is ok. is there a preferred shape when doing this mod?

Oddly enough I posted an RPM mod I did years ago. Yes you can bring your edges to a point or knife edge to do what you need. When I 1st got my 3-bbl its was lean on sec side so I suggest to use an O2 sensor wideband for tuning Jeff

i'll go ahead and copy the sd style of notch and thanks for the extra info on the carb. that will help in the long run.

I used a thicker carb gasket and cut out the middle divider between the secondaries

this is the finished version of my center divider. it ended up being a little more involved than i originally planned. i intended the notch to be just enough to clear the throttle plate. when i put the carb on and opened the secondary up, you could see plenty of the flat carb flange/center divider. you could even see some of the divider through the primaries. it probably would have been just fine that way, but i couldn't leave well enough alone. the center divider was narrowed between the primaries. the notch for the secondary was lengthened (didn't make it any deeper) and blended as best i could. for better or worse, at least it lets the secondary open.

Most aerodynamic shape is a rain drop so that should help. Although Wilson intakes used to rough the bottom and lower sides of intake runners to keep air /fuel in suspension w turbulence. Am which is probably why they waffled the bottom of that intake like that. So sometimes aerodynamics isn’t what you want Best is testing look at those 4 hole spacers they used w the long angles openings under the carbs forget what they were called . Fun fact; the real shape of a raindrop is not a smooth stretched spheroid. Rather is a 3-D ink blot.
Otherwise, the cartoon raindrop is a rather good aero shape. |
