Question Adhesive plastic floor mats long term?

When I put my T/A in storage a few months ago, it had an adhesive plastic wrap floor mat on the driver's side.

I won't be seeing it for another few months and was just curious if there might be any adverse effects from leaving it on the carpet too long? (mold, deterioration, fading, etc.)

I would definitely remove it, traps moisture. I don’t leave the floor mats in my cars when in storage.

I owned a dealership and used them quite often. They don't hurt anything.

Moisture? LOL! I'm in WNY. Snow country. I've bought convertibles in November for spring sale. Never an issue.

I had 2 feet of snow yesterday.

Adhesive... that's the key word. I leave my floor mats in the GTO all winter and they don't have any adhesive on them. Just plain ol Pontiac rubber mats. And haven't have any problems with moisture.... unless I'm the one with wet shoes. And no mold problems at all.

If you don't want your mats to move around get the ones with the little nubs on the underside. I have them in my Jeep and they stay put. Mine are clear, but they're probably not the ones you'd want for a classic car.

This is the stuff I'm talkin bout:

You can catch a glimpse of it in this video:

I left it on mainly cause I track a lot of bondo dust from my shop and only recently started thinking about the effects of the adhesive on the carpet

Oh well, I'll see what happens in June

As long as you put them on a totally dry carpet you'll be fine. I had an overzealous detail shop put them on a damp carpet in a Mercedes once and there was some moisture on the underside of the plastic 2 months later. Still didn't hurt anything but I was surprised it didn't smell a bit.

For Bondo dust I would have just thrown down some old bath towels. Towels would trap the dust and can be shook out. You still could do that.

We would use a similar product to protect carpet in a finished building during construction. Whatever adhesive is on there is prob marginal at best. I dont think you will have a problem with that. As far as moisture, prob be ok too as long as you put it on dry carpet to begin with as per chief.

Its designed for high traffic areas, like at dealerships where people test drive cars or a particular car a lot or when weather is crappy. Rather than pay to have a car detailed to put on the lot, then pay to have it detailed again when sold, this product keeps the most likely soiled area clean. So when a car is sold, it just needs a basic wash for make ready. No real useful need in the private sector.

Like I said, I left it on while she was in my shop and just didn't think to remove it before putting her in storage
