Default WOW... This is a first for me

I have never seen an intake manifold fail like this. Please feel free to put in your I am thinking that the thermistat could have failed and possibly sealed off as my edelbrock preformer intake maniford blew a large whole next to the therm. housing. Which followed with a rather warm blast of coolent to my face. YES I was under the hood while this took place. Moving forward I am looking for a new manifold for my 73 455
I have found a good price locally on a 68-69 intake part# 9794234 looks to be in good condition would i be having a lot of work to fit an edelbrock 800 manual choke carb to this intake.

As always the advise is appreciated.

That is messed up. Obviously a thin spot that eroded from electrolysis.
Hope you are OK.

Definitely a thin spot, either from the foundry or corrosion\electrolysis. The thermostat failing to open fully shouldn't have caused that much pressure, you've got a bypass in the crossover back to the timing cover for a reason.

I am okay protection in the form of sunglasses and a most rightoeus beard took the brunt of it. Any thoughts on a 69 4bl(350.400.428) intake fitting a 73 455 ?

It will drop right on. The exhaust crossover will need some attention to keep it from leaking - they make a gasket set specifically to help this.

Cut the water crossover off and get and aftermarket one.

Was that fuel line laying across that intake? That can do something like this over time.

You would need the Fel-Pro intake gasket # 1233 which has the center crossover adapters to run the early intake on late heads.

that is the fuel line in the front of the intake it does not touch however it does run over the top of the waterpump. Is the performance going to be similar between the 69 4bl and the edelbrock performer.

Your performance will likely improve some switching to the stock intake which is a better flowing unit than the Performer.

A lot of people do it so you can change out intakes without disturbing the water neck crossover.

Can you buy the water crossover or do you have to find a doner manifold.

Pretty sure KRE offers an aluminum crossover, otherwise you'll have to remove one from another aftermarket intake.

A cast iron one from a discarded 2-barrel intake is a good way to go too, certainly will last longer than an aluminum one.
