I've probably fixed thousands of wrecks, and to me the scariest thing in those pictures is the steering wheel. I hope those in the car made it out alive.

That would certainly put a damper on your Sunday drive.

It's good that you don't see any blood in the car. Hopefully they had shoulder restraints, even though it doesn't seem like it with the steering wheel all banged up.

Have pulled quite a few '67-68 tilt column ores out of hard hit f/e wrecks. In each the expanded metal in the outer column tube & shaft collapsed, was better than nothing, but no padded steering wheel or airbag to lessen the blow. At very least, if the driver made it in this wreck, bet he had numerous broken ribs.

Be careful
Never like seeing any car in this shape, especially a GTO
Hope everyone made it out OK You always have to keep it in perspective. Cars are replaceable, people aren't. It's hard to lose something like this, but in the end, it's just stuff! Ron

Inde, at first glance I thought it was your car.....then I saw the gold interior and no post. Thank goodness yours is still ok! The car pictured is not restorable. Likely it will become an illegal VIN swap and another Tempest/Lemans will vanish into obscurity.

I'll bet it hit something like a concrete or steel overpass support column. I'll also bet whatever it hit didn't flinch.

On the Fordbarn (I have a Model A speedster) one of the contributor made this remark:
"Let me set a little scenario. If that car had been adequately insured, the 'at-fault' insurance company would have likely repaired it. Contrary to what some have suggested above, I do not think that car is hurt that bad. Naturally there would likely be some hidden (supplemental) damage claims but lets break this down some; Remember, we are not restoring but only repairing back to a condition 10 seconds prior to impact. Now, I said all of that to say this. An insurance company generally only 'totals' a vehicle when the estimated cost to repair exceeds 80% of replacement or agreed insured amount. If this car would have been properly insured for a minimum of $40k, then it would not have exceeded the 80% and likely would have been repaired. What I find so often is a case where hobbyists only have their vehicle insured for a small token amount (i.e.: $10k) which does not cover replacement value nor repairs. In this instance where it is likely the owner was not at fault, convincing the other driver's insurance company to pay more than $10k is sometimes a hard sell. Then, I am also finding many insurance companies are not allowing owners to "buy back" their vehicle due to perceived future liability issues. My advice to each of you reading this is to insure your own vehicle for twice the amount you think it will cost to replace your car. That way you are in a position to have them repair your car satisfactorily, --or replace it with something that is truly equal to what you had. Generally speaking, adding another $20k in value adds less than $100 to the annual premium for most collector car insurance policies. That's my 2 cents anyway." This was written in regards to a car that was rear ended with considerable damage. It makes you think about your own coverage. |

Looks like it might have swaped fluids with a good size tree.... or like what was previously said. I do hope those in it survived.
Like Carles said.... trunk lid usable. Maybe the rear bumper, tailpanel, tail lights, side glass, rear window, rear seat and trim as well. Not enough left for even a good bid IMO. Tho it looks like it had the trim rings you need Charles. I can see 3 that are useable.

Do they really want $30,000 for that thing??? Is that a joke? There's hardly anything left on it. Hopefully the driver is ok??

Driver side 1/4 looks good yet. That would bring some really nice money if its still straight, rust free and low on bondo.

ACV = $30k
This is not what the car is selling for, it is actual cash value in good useable condition. Cop art lists every vehicle this way. It is amazing how the right grille is touching the firewall. These cars fold up like a taco really easy.
