Talking Golfers & Car Guys?

May be a DUMB question.... But, anyone else out there a combo of a golfer and a car guy?

I have been a Professional for 21 yrs, a PGA Professional for the past 13. Car guys in the golf biz are there, but they almost keep it hidden lol. Like it's a stigma. Or just afraid to get their hands dirty.

Many of the older Touring pros are Muscle Car freaks. (Fred Couples,Johnny Miller,Bruce Lietzke)

And I'd still rather be in blue jeans and a t shirt with oil in my hair skinned knuckles on a piece of cardboard under my car... Than in a pair of Dockers & a golf shirt :-)

I was a lawn jockey for 4 years at Wawasee working for my uncle. He taught me how to "play golf"
I still play with a set of Hogan Apex blades and persimmon woods. My driver is 2 degrees open with 11 degrees of loft. Extra stiff shaft.
Before I was hurt in that crash I was playing at 3 handicap. Just cannot putt worth poop. Mainly too cheap to buy one of Scotty Camerons putters. I have an TPM #12.
from 85 iirc.

A friend of mine owns Johnny Miller's old BMW M5. It was reportedly the first M5 in the US (he imported it in 1985, they weren't officially sold here until 1988.) I had a chance to drive it once, it's a pretty cool car.

1971-1972 - Jack Nicklaus was endorsing Pontiacs, and he had a Pontiac dealership. I have some great commercials of Jack with the Grand Prix and Firebird. And ol' Tiger Woods was the Buick guy. I have a ton of Buick Rendevous promotional stuff with Tiger's mug on the cover .

I used to play golf with my dad, until he passed away a few years ago.

Check out this thread, a 1973 SD-455 Trans Am with only 1700 miles, original owner was PGA golfer John McGeary Jr.

This was a few yrs ago but:

I like vintage cars. My wife, Thais, and I have a silver 1970 convertible Mercedes and a 280SE. I had four Mustangs--a '70 Mach 1, a '68 GT 500 Shelby Cobra, a '68 GT 350 and a '66 Fastback -- but I sold them all to Bruce Leitzke. They were beautiful.

Ian Poulter has a 69 GTO. There's even a vid clip of him doing a burnout on the net.

Does being a bogey golfer count as being a golfer?

I stepped on a rake out on a golf course once. That was the 2 best balls I'd ever hit.

Great to hear some of the 'golfers' are into the old muscle cars and classics.

I played up until three years or so ago when hip problems got the best of me.

I was thinking today about selling my clubs and bag.

Two of my golfing buddies are also into cars, but not Pontiacs.

One raced motocycles and owns a large dealership in NC.

In our 30s 40s we went golf crazy! We traveled all over to play golf, taking the wives along too.

I have to say, sometimes it was a "moving experience". Playing new courses, the sun rises or sunsets, first to tee off on a fairway soaked in dew... nature at its finest! SOme of the courses were just plain "amazing".

We went to The Big Island of Hawaii and played the Hilton there for three days.....it was stunning! Volcanic rock was the hazards, so hit one in there and it was like a superball...bounced for five minutes it seemed...lol!

All over NC, GA, FL Bahamas, Bermuda...the only one I didnt go on and regret was Scotland.

I wonder if many guys wouldnt even play if their friends were not involved?

Its amazing how much money you can spend to have a one up on your friends.

Very competitive at that age.

The old guys seems to enjoy it more, and dont buy two new putters a year!

Oh yeah. And club collectors are even worse. A few yrs back, they would drop $ to a set of RAV heads on a PUTTER. But, economy has bit them in the ass.

..Oh yeah... another "plus".. the sound of a set of flowmasters rolling through a nice country club gate...... l

For me the perfect summer day is: load the clubs (and the wife) in the Firebird, top down of course, drive an hour or so to a golf course we haven't played before, play 18 (hopefully well) have dinner and a couple of drinks at the clubhouse and then drive off into the sunset, top still down. The only thing that makes it better is when someone notices the car in the parking lot and stops to talk cars for a while.

My brother in law is a golfer...a fanatical golfer...and he doesn't know much about cars other than point A to point B, which is ironic in that he repairs major appliances for a living. Nonetheless though, at family functions he always wants to talk with me about the lasest I'm doing in the hobby. I know he's just being friendly in showing an interest, but there's a reason I never discuss golf with him...it doesn't interest me.
