Default Holley P-32 850 Double Pumper

Found a carb in storage today - must have come with other parts because I never remember picking it up. Has 4781-2 on the bottom of the base plate and P-32 on the driver's side upper left corner of the main body, 180 on each of the 4 throttle blades.

Good carb, bad carb, application, value?

Good carb.

Value, yeah it has some value, actual value will vary depending on condition & such.

But they go for pretty good money even needing to be gone thru,so long as they are mostly complete and unmolested.

Application, great carb for a healthy 455 or bigger cid engine.

Nice surprise find!

Wish that sorta thing happened to me more often...

Cliff Ruggles runs a 4781-2 with a custom calibration (His), on his 455 Ventura and has run low 11s with the carb as well as having outstanding street manners and acceleration.

A very good carburetor when you can find an older one.

Not to hijack, but what is different about a 4781-6? I just picked one up for my wagon's 455 street motor.

Not much likely, random odds & ends, often a few more plastic pieces like the acc. pump arms and choke pieces, and IIRC power valve blow-out prevention and such.

Probably four corner idle mixture screws as well (but dont quote me on that).

Nothing too drastic though.

FWIW.

Yep, 4 corner idle. It also has the P-32 on the main body.

Thanks.

I did a partial trade on a used one. Traded my Dominator 1050 for the carb and cash.

Got you "Gun Shy", on the Holley Info huh, Bret, LOL (:>)

Yep, the 4781-6 received the 4 corner idle modification. The mod required a different base plate strategy, the rear metering block required the addition of the "idle circuits" vs the "bowl purge circuit", and as Bret said "extra small changes were made for cost savings, political/ marketing reasons: PV back-fire valves, etc). I have NEVER had a PV blow out from a back-fire because IF I did my job the engine will not back-fire in the first place.

The calibration was still basically the same: 80 P & S jetting, dual power valves, common bleed strategy to older carbs, etc.
