All good,
Its a good idea to have its own thread, IMO.... since its so rare and known in the community. These should be selling strong by now. This is the "one" to have, imo Jeff |

We used to have a cottage (back in 70-86) near Malone/Massena NY, on the Quebec side...I remember stopping at an old small house with a '69 GTO up front in Massena and buying parts from the owner. Wonder if it's the same guy who has this one...Do you know where it was found? They mention it was aBarn Find....

Car was at the Saratoga GTOAA convention, see pics, where it took a silver in concours. It truly is a time capsule and what a super rare car to be in such shape. All the original paint dabs, decals and markings are all present and quite fresh looking still. The trunk weatherstripping line up markings really caught my eye, they looked like they were just applied. like An amazing piece of preseved history.

So can we use this car as a confirmation of another controversial item (or items) that have been discussed earlier in other posts but not resolved? The door striker and lock mechanism seem to both be unpainted in the pics...or was this confirmed to depend on the plant?

An original paint 65 that is now being restored in the shop had unpainted strikers and latches. There was factory black paint under the striker when it was disassembled. Have always heard that early cars were unpainted and later painted. Data I have supports that so far. I think the changeover was in 66 or 67?

Thanx, 2many...That is what I had heard too but alot of others came in with different versions and we never got confirmation of whether it was true or a plant variation....

That thing is just beautiful! (Only thing I would have ordered different is white interior - just personal preference)
I ran the $5037 price through the US labor inflation converter and it stated that it would be equal to $31K today. HERE THIS GM!!! Instead of going bankrupt and closing Pontiac - Give me that car again for $31K! (Not to get off the subject, but if someone high up at GM is reading this, just give us a new base 68 or 69 GTO HT again for an adjusted $19.6K and I’d bet the UAW would be working 24/7) |

Don't get too caught up in documenting things from that car, while mostly original and unmolested, alot of work has been done over the years. I judged it in Columbus and again in Saratoga so I know. Not taking anything away from the car at all! It is awesome and I would love to have it my garage, but comparing it to an absolutely untouced car, like Kryta's green 69 convert is not really appropriate.
Every original 68 I have ever seen has had painted latched and strikers...
