Default Disc brake swap questions.

I'm planning on doing a brake a swap on my 64 LeMans and have heard stories of poor quality spindles. Are the spindles just a cheap knock off of the factory disc brake ones? Does anybody make a kit with quality spindles or would I be better off just finding a good set of factory spindles? Thanks

Find good used factory spindles if you're looking to run a stock single-piston 11" disc brake setup.

They do pop up here from time to time, they're not impossible to find.

Inquire with some of the guys you see selling a lot of stuff here, you'll likely find what you're looking for.

Most aftermarket replica forged steel spindles are every bit as good as originals. If you prefer to find used spindles then nothing wrong with that as long as they are in good condition. However, what size and type wheels do you have?

Planning on using the Team 3 LT III 17X8 wheels on the car possibly 18x8 or 9 on the back.

11" OEM brakes are good with 17" front wheels

8" wide front wheels are doable but are a little wide for stock 64, if you need to suck them in I make a 11.2"kit that moves the wheels inboard 3/4" on the OEM disc spindle.

That's interesting. I've never heard of this kit. Could you give some more info on this kit?

I designed a hub/rotor kit that uses your OEM disc brake brackets/spindles/backing plates and moves wheels inward 7/8" from OEM disc brakes. I make a steel hub that makes this possible. All you do is remove OEM rotor and install my hub/rotor on your factory disc brakes. Works great on A bodies but can not be used on Firebirds/Camaros unless you have larger then 18" wheels due to dropped shape of steering arm which doesn't allow for wheels to be moved inward this amount.

By the way, I made a mistake the kit moves in 7/8"

Neat product, very innovative.

It's nice to have alternatives when trying to make different wheels fit, especially so on lowered cars.

Very nice. Can this be used to convert front drums to front disc. A lot of the kits move the wheels out-a definite problem with clearance and rubbing.

You have to use OEM disc brake spindles, brackets etc.

Most of the guys wanting this type are the ones with 9" wide wheels. However as an example my 64 only has 15x7 TT2, 3 3/4" back space with 215/60/15 tires and one side will just scrape the front corner of the fender at times, I can imagine how bad it is with 8" or 9" wheels.
