'65 and later corvair front end under a '63 lemans
Has any body done this or is currently running this type of set up under a '63 leMans?

The Corvair swap used to be big with the StreetRod group back in the 70's and early 80's. Then they discovered the Mustang II. I'm not familiar with the front end of a 63 LeMans, so I don't know if they are hard to find parts for or have screwy tendencies (ala Chevy II), but I would think if you were bent on changing suspension setups, the Mustang would be the way to go. Someone somewhere has to make a crossmember for the LeMans
Run away from the Corvair. It was the hot setup at one time, but then so were Stanley Steamers... |

I'll tell you why but I still need to know who has done it and how its done.
First why: Cause its mine and I'm asking nicely second why: available wheel bolt pattern/compatable with rear Third why: parts availability including performance handling stuff. Not too keen about putting any ford stuff on this car, not even a hood scoop. I am very familiar about corvair stuff having owned a few in the past. They can be made to handle and with aftermarket stuff available thye are competative in corvette territory. Its all theoretical speculation right now but with what I plan to put in the rear,again speculating, I would rather carry a single spare tire of a bolt pattern that is easily available. also I would rather have affordable and available handling options with parts that are available. Plus with the corvair assembly being a bolt on affair there is always the option of doing some thing better when it becomes available. I am told that second generation Firebird sub frame can be modified to fit. any body done that....yet? If worse comes to worse I can always put a 4X4 blazer drivetrain under it and go boonie hopping.......Just kidding! |

Scarebird, can you speak slower? I can put a 64 and later A-body hub on my 63 spindle and avail myself of the 4.75 inch bolt pattern? More to the point, I can use a 64 and later a body hub and disc brake disc on my 63 spindle? What about wheel bearings What about the caliper and mounting bracket?. Hoses? master cylinder, perportioning valve. I've seen alot of info on the disc brake installation but i thought it was always for the 4.5 inch bolt pattern which I'm trying to avoid. You sell alot of brake stuff, Do you sell this stuff? website? Edit: I checked your website. I can use a 64-72 a-body hub and disc brake assembly on my 63 spindle using your caliper mounting bracket? Yes, you can do all that. The bearings/distance is the same, so the hubs will interchange. We can make you the brackets, and you would use 79-85 Eldo front hoses to do the job. IIRC you use 10.5" S10 4WD rotors. You will need to do a little lathe work on the hub, essentially cutting it down to fit inside the rotor.

are the eldo calipers metric or sae? cant use the 70-72 Abody calipers?
