I have a 80 Formula with the TH350 in it. I want to go to a four speed auto( can't afford a standard setup yet) but I don't know what tranny's will hook up to the engine that are four speed. Also is there any Canadian guys on here who no of an internet company in Canada that sell's perfomance engine parts for 301's?
Thanks,
301

The 200R out of a Buick/Olds etc wagon(or Buick GN) should more than handle the power of a 301. Ol Pinion Head here has tweaked some 301s. I think from looking at the heads and intake porting them to be able to get more air in, if its teh Turbo tightneing the waste gate down.

The 200-4R swap is pretty straightforward. I put one in my '81 bird without any problems. Further, there are more than enough aftermarket suppliers that can build this transmission to handle a bunch of power! (Not that the 301 is going to push those limits..... )

I used the following two places to purchase items that made the swap much easier:

These guys have a kit of parts for your floor shifter to allow selection of all the gears

These guys have a premade crossmember for the swap

Good luck!!

301,

My `79 came with a Borg Warner Super T-10 4 speed with the factory 301. The T-10s still in there but the engine's a 400

Is the TH400 a four speed? And would it hook right up? I read that it was an option with the 301.

The turbo 400 is a 3 speed like the turbo 350. The last year for the turbo 400 in the Firebird was 1974.
