Default Pontiac Paint & Varnish

Drove through the Yak yesterday, this cool old paint store is still on Woodward in Pontiac. Cool inside too. They just don’t build them like this anymore

Nice to see it is still in operation! I remember going into it back in the 1990's begging for door prizes or other support for the Royal Pontiac's club car show being held at the Phoenix center later that summer. They did give us something small for the goodie bags, but I don't remember what it was. Good memories! Thanks Burd

Looks like the blank wall could have all been plate glass panels at one time.

Has an old school dealership look in its construction.

Those were the days, cars, homes and neat buildings like the above paint store.

Everything today is so generic.

Thanks for sharing.

Thats a cool building and def a piece of history. Glad theyre still open but honestly it doesnt look too inviting. Maybe run a weedwacker along the sidewalk once a year! Theres not many old school 'hardware' builder related stores around anymore. Before HD and Lowes all of the places were like this. Each division of construction seemed to have its own specialty store. When I first started we would have to travel 45 min one way to get anything out of the ordinary. We had a local lumber yard but thats about all they had. Lumber and a few hand tools. Block, brick, paint, etc. meant at trip to the city. Now the big box stores have everything and thats not always good. There is still one place in downtown Wilmington that is a true roofing supplier. They have some stuff you just cant get anywhere else. Fortunately the neighborhood has change just a little so you feel almost safe going there.

That's kinda what downtown Pontiac looks like.

Pontiac Varnish has been at that location since 1938, if I'm reading this right. Pontiac Paint joined them in 1963.
