Even if it's not a GT, if it's a real stick car, it's rare as hell.

My good friend John (gto4door) checked on that car the last time it was on CL.

Unfortunately I can't recall what he found out . . . John?

Hope to hear more about it. The 3.23 rear has me wondering what the car was originally. A non a/c 400 3spd or 400 4spd '70 Tempest or T-37/GT-37 would have a 3.55 ratio standard. A non a/c 350 2bbl Saginaw Tempest, I'm betting a 3.23.

Is that a relatively fresh coat of red oxide primer OR faded cardinal red? Cant tell from the pics & no pic of the cowl tag...

A scam I've run across before on internet carlot "nice" project cars is the painting over of a blocked bondoed mild rust bucket with single stage. Finish will look dull like a faded original, but with nothing properly repaired metal wise & a real nightmare for the new buyer... not good.

Yes, I remember that car. It was posted on Craigslist back in September. I recall the seller telling me that it had a Chevy motor at one time, so I was thinking it was a 6 cylinder car. He also said the interior was not original, but was customized with bucket seats added to it. Seller also told me the car was originally green color (I recall). He had found the car some place near the Texas Mexico border but did not have a title for it. I know that Bob Wicker (TABob) had called the seller at that time and tried to get the VIN but was not successful and finally gave up. I never did bother to go out to look at it. Don't really know what that car originally came equipped with until you get the VIN and run a PHS. I remember jokingly telling Bob after he gave up on trying to get the VIN that it would be funny if that car was originally a GT-37 or a Knafel Magnum 400 that he and I let slip out of our hands.

I know the guy and had gone out to his place not too long ago, lots of Pontiacs. Only remember seeing one red car think it was a Canadian built car

As far as finding out what it came with, you could check the emission sticker if it is still on the core support.

If I recall a 350 lemans 3 spd had a 2:73 rear standard. The one I parted recenctly had a M13 / 3:23 non posi. If there was a hole in the floor some people would assume or say it had a 4 speed because it would make it more desirable as would the posi rear. I think you would have to have a little knowledge of Pontiacs to come up with the 3:23 ratio ?

Yep, the rear end I have now is a 3.23 that came out of my other 1971 GT-37 that was a 350 3 speed with factory Hurst floor shifter.

Have owned three '72 LeMans GT's. All no a/c 350 3 speed manual cars. Each had 3.23's.
I didn't want to assume the '70 Tempest or T-37/GT-37 was a 350 3spd cat but the odds are a lot better of it being a 350 3spd car than a 400 3spd or 400 4spd car.

Someone needs to rescue the red post car & send off for the PHS. If it turns out a 400 man trans car, even better!
