Cleaning seat belts
I have the original seat belts in my 66 GP. The are a dark gold color and look a little dirty in the usual spots. What is the best way to clean these? I have used a household cleaner (spray on) then wiped off with clean terrycloth towel. However I don't want to "damage" the original color by using something that is too strong that might bleach or lighten them.
Thanks. MarkC |

My seat belts were black but I have used this stuff on all the belts I've ever cleaned & it makes them all look good when done. Take a 5 gal. bucket & put the hottest water you can in it along with some Dawn dish soap & some of any kind of OXI -CLEAN type of detergent you can find, I just use the cheapest I can get & put about 1 cup of it in the bucket of water , about half a bucket will usually do, then put the belts in the whole thing buckles & all swish it around for about 3-5 min's. then let it sit fro about 2-3 hours so it will soak them real good. Then rinse them real god so you get all the soap out & then soak them in hot clean water again for about 1 hour. Take them out & let them dry & your good to go.

Simple Green
Spray on, scrub with vinyl brush, wipe clean.

Thanks guys. I was going to try cleaning them still in the car (lazy). They are not real bad. I will see how it goes and if not satisfied remove them and try the bucket method.
Keep the suggestions coming. MarkC |

I just put them in the washing machine with other stuff. It gets everything out. I've done it several times to different sets. They will look faded afterward but thats because all the grease and dirt is gone.
