Default points window dist cap with hei terminal

I am possibly converting back to points. I am looking for a points cap with widow that has males terminals. I ahve over a 100 bucks in these wires and I would rather keep them.

Does anybody make one?

Thanks

Greg

That's a downgrade. Points do NOTHING better than an electronic ignition unless there's an EMP burst, and if that electronic ignition is a Genuine GM HEI in good condition,, there's no more reliable ignition on the planet.

I am not doubting GM HEI but I have a tripower and they don't fit.

MSD makes them. They should be on Summits site somewhere.

If you can't find a cap you want, the terminals and boots can be changed pretty easily. PM me if you want them changed over.

I think I have one of those still laying around here. If I recall it doesn't have a window for the points. It does however fit the points distributor housings.

Those are the caps that were originally supplied with MSD distributors, and I would always swap them out for the female terminal cap that has a points window, for a stock appearance.

I have a tripower, but not OEM, and not Pontiac. I made an HEI fit, but it wasn't easy. Photos from decades ago, during "trial assembly". There've been several changes since then.

You're looking for a "Dave's Small-Body HEI". Beats the hell out of points. Custom-curved to your engine. I know him only by reputation on various forums, username "Ignitionman".

Default HEI wires on points cap

Hello all,at one time there were small adapters to do this conversion. I believe they were made by MSD.I may have a set in my 50 year old stash.

I contacted Dave Ray several years ago and sent him my old Pontiac points distributor (which was missing many parts) and he renovated it to his HEI conversion and did a great job (even supplying the missing advance mechanism and recurving it). The thing works/runs great. And uses a cap with the window and female sockets which I replaced with an MSD black cap with male sockets to go with my existing wires. Can defintely recommend this route.

Point being, his "points" distributor upgrade to a magnetic-pickup/HEI module has almost all the benefits of the GM HEI, yet has the compact housing and mostly-original looks...

...and no need for a window in the distributor cap.
