2nd gen Ignition Switch From NAPA Problem
Wanted new switch for 71 tilt column. So bought NAPA. Took column out of car. Had it on bench, replaced switch. Put a little grease on metal rod that activates switch where it rubs column. Could turn on switch to start but switch wouldn't go to run. Seemed real tight. So tried again same problem. Had B body tilt column tried that switch, worked. So I put old switch back in installed column last night, hot humid. Haven't tried it yet. Anyways I put new switch on B body column thinking hole where rod goes into wasnt deep enough. Noticed other side of switch, plastic was broke out, nothing major.Anyone else have this issue? New switch now seems to switch from start to run!?

Delco D1410A or D1423A
Interchange later 1990092, 1990096 1190087 group 2.188 Most of the aftermarket switches are junk. NOS, while pricey, will far exceed the quality of a cheap offshore switch.

if you don't see them in Ames catalog, Rock Auto sells the GM switches for both tilt and non-tilt. Here is the tilt version but it's not the same part #'s that Canamman lists above, just caught that so need to double check to make sure these are correct: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...249400&jsn=407

Current AC Delco parts aren't what they used to be, especially post -NAFTA. I would seek out an early issued part for best results.

@ 77_Canamman
According to my MPC the one I am looking for is a #3981938 I did a search on ePay, and found nothing. You're saying that the aftermarket ones are junk, can you tell me other superceded part numbers for this tumbler? I work next to a Chev delaership, and could get them to make me one, but if I am understanding correctly that the "new" stuff they have is crap, I'd rather hold off for a good one... alternately, is there any way of determining if they happen to have an old stock part wich is better than most of the junk out there? I replaced my door locks back in 1996(?) with the 1974 style round keys - I am now wondering if they were not seized, but instead, I was maybe trying to use the wrong key... I should have put two and two together when the parts counter guy brought out replacement door locks which used square keys... I will send you a PM incase you don't get an alert - and am posting this all here for the benefit of anyone else who might glean information shared.

You arer seeking the tumbler-the part where the keys goes in..correct? This is a different part than what the OP was seeking, which is under the dash on top of the column.
Regardless, 1970 used a J key blank, which was used on the front doors and ignition. The oval key, which is a K blank, was used in the trunk and glove box locks. GR 2.188 3981938 is 1970 only uncoded cylinder, which would require a locksmith to install the tumblers to make it functional.I could not find a superceded number for this. I would look for a J blank cylinder, which was used in 1974 and 1978. Quote:

hmm...
I did a different ebay search after reading your reply, and found this: 3981938 Based on the "E" key blank, I am guessing this listing is messed up... or is it?
