Default Slick problem

So I've been racing on these slicks for 2 years don't know how many passes I have on them but Sunday morning before my final time run for the quick 16 I noticed this (pic below). Got any ideas........? I've been running this tire and size since 1993 basically same tire pressure 5.7 cold. They are M/T 32 x 14.5".........I'll wait a while then let you know what M/T says.

Thanks,
George

Are there places like that all the way around the slick or just those three?

Looks like you did a burnout on some rocks or crap?
(or when loading and spun the slicks)

Yea I couldn't run the q16, didn't want to take a chance on blowing a tire at 166mph. Cost me money!

.

But not as much as if you had a blowout at the big end. I have no idea what caused it, but I agree with your decision not to run. By the way, I run M T tires, too, and it surprises me that they don't have wear indicators in the center of the tire---around the edges only.

Do you rotate your slicks regularly?
(from side to side)

i run M/T exclusively and am a dealer for them... i have NEVER seen this issue before.. you did say that they are 2 years old, roughly how many passes are on them, 5? 20? 50? smart move NOT making a run on that tire.. was it on both tires or just the one? let me know what you find out, i am friends with Buddy the tire tech at M/T and can see what i can find out for you if whoever you are talking to now can't seem to provide any good answers for you...

Yea I bought them last year if I remember. I got them the next year the last time Kinsler and Jack showed up at Norwalk. I qualified at 8.15 I was slipping and sliding down the track because my slicks were worn out. So this would be the 2nd year on them.

Maybe 50 passes at best! It's just the driver side slick. They were fine when I took the car off my hoist before I loaded it Wednesday.

rotating side to side is to make the sidewalls last longer, they will typically wear out before the "tread" on the tires... especially on high horsepower, heavy, hard hitting, and or stick cars.

Then why only one side and why such a dramatic failure?

In fact, I noticed you run much lower pressure than I do (7 1/2#). I thought maybe you knew something I didn't, but maybe not. Seems like our cars are pretty comparable (performance, weight, etc.).

Do you have summer air or winter air in them?
