Default '66 Convertible

Thought I'd share a picture or two of my '66 Tempest project. It started out life as an OHC 6 1 barrel car. When I got it, the engine had been replaced with a '69 250. I have been driving it around for several years, but I sold the engine out of it. I pulled a '66 421 from a Catalina station wagon that was being parted out back in November. I am almost done re-building it. I had some forged 428 pistons and ended up boring it to a .030 428. I'm using the 092 heads, 744 cam, '67 ram air manifolds, the stock AFB and cast iron intake for now. I have a tripower that will find its way on this engine as soon as I get it running and broke in. So, I will be putting this in the Tempest along with a '66 M21 4 speed and a 3:90 positrac.

As much as I am a firm believer that it’s your car do with it as you wish,
It is sad to see another Cammer lose its sole

Best of Luck with her.
Cheers.

Had the car have been numbers matching or a sprint I wouldn't have messed with it. Since it has been messed with before I figured I might as well make it the way I wanted it. Atleast it isn't getting a Chevy engine.

It looks like your 428 pistons only have the valve reliefs for the later heads. You need to make sure that you don't have valve to piston clearance issues because of this as you are using the older style 092 heads. Best of luck on your project. Jerry.

I got the 421 finished up, just need a clutch and throwout bearing and I'll be ready to set this thing in and see if it will run. I started to put the tri power set up on, but I ended up re-building the '66 afb and will break the engine in with that carb. Once I get it running and all of the bugs out, I'll work with the tri power. Now I need to set the 3:90's up.

Don't worry Jeff the OHC 69ZF 1bbl went to a good home . Scott's car deserves that biggo V8 as it is a nice car.

I got the 421 broke in and went for a test drive. It certainly was neat hearing that 421 come to life after roughly 30 years of sitting. I thought the 744 cam would be a little more lumpy, but it does have a good exhaust note to it. The M21 worked as well, but it is horrible taking off with a 2:56 rear end. I'll have to change that soon.

Manual brakes and steering, too. No nonsense here. When the rear gears get installed, watch out!!!!

I added some different wheels and tires to the car. I like the plain look of the dog dish caps.

Been following this thread. This could be the coolest Tempest ever. From the new wheels to everything under the hood.

Nice work.

Are the wheels 15's?

I don't know about that, but I appreciate it! The wheels are 14x6's off of a '66 Chevy station wagon.
