Danny, I would say, yes.

In the later years they are.
(no TH350 in 64)

Not sure on the last question, but the same, I'd say it's on top the frame.

Yes, sits on top on the frame in the rubber cushion covered by the metal bracket with bolt holes on each end.

And as a bonus, the crossmember stays exactly where it was for the four speed, and the drive shaft will work with the TH350 without modification. The only thing you have to do is hook up a downshift cable.

x2

Turbo 400 Moved the cross-member back. Turbo 350 an easy swap from a Muncie.

Do the holes already exist in the '65 frame for the TH400? I have a 2004R to install, but I know it uses the TH400 mounting location.

No, they do not.

If you have a "Roof Car" the frame is a "C" section and the cross-member can be moved rearward, a 400 driveshaft from a 67 GTO used/made and you are good to go.

If you have a "vert", then it is harder. You can bolt plates to the exposed mounts welded on the side of the frame, drill new holes in the plates, slide the cross-member rearward and then drill the actual cross member mounts in the plates.

When I had the frame out of my car I split the cross-member mount, cut the rear portion off and moved it rearward, and added a "middle section" that would allow me to run my Doug Nash trans, (400 type cross-member location), or my M21-or M22 manual GM Transmissions.

Ps Check for floorboard to driveshaft clearance when doing the 400 Trans/ cross-member swap.

The 2004R is the same overall length as a Muncie or TH350, but the mounting pad is in the same location as a TH400. In other words, you need the TH400 crossmember mounting location, but use a stock length Manual / TH350 / Super Turbine 300 driveshaft & yoke.
