Default plugging run-flat tire

I have a small nail hole on the tread part of a run-flat tire. Is it ok to just go ahead and plug it?

Thanks
John

I would bring it to a tire shop and get it patched from the inside.

Agree with Grandville, take it to the shop. As you know run flats aren't cheap. We had a nail in one of our Vette tires and filled it with air and went to the dealer. Cost $50 but it was better then possibly screwing up a $450 tire.

DO NOT PLUG IT !!!!! Just asking for trouble or ruin a tire. Have it patched inside, be just like new. Just make sure little Johnny knows how to dismount/remount a runflat with out tearing the bead. Most Goodyear stores have specially trained & experienced runflat tire changers. 20 Years in the tire business, I've 1 or 2 things.

If the tire has a lot of tread left on it, it would probably be good idea to have a professional dismount tire and plug/patch it from the inside. If it is already fairly worn out, and you don't plan to run 150 MPH, you may just want to plug it.

Corvette Forum has had a bunch of posts about this topic. Many say don't do it, but many say they have done it without any issues.

This is my experience with plugging runflat tires. When the OEM Goodyear Runflat Tires on the rear of my C5 Vette were almost bald and ready to be replaced, I got a small screw in one of them and it went flat. They were ready to be replaced, but I did not have the replacement tires yet so I went ahead and put a plug in it. I drove it for another month or so with a lot of burnouts (I hate to take tires off with tread still on them) and it held air well with no apparent issues.
