Default GTO Alternator--700 or 854

I have a question, i know the common alt for a 69 GTO w-a/c is a 55 amp ending in 700, but mine has a 854, and date codes the car....any info? I was pulling it down to have the alt restored and couldn't figure it out. Date code is right, i found some info but whats the deal...anyone know? THanks

Could be the 61 amp alternator that was an option on the GTO for '69. Not near my reference books right now but will check when I can.

No listing for a 854 for '69 in my books. 61 amp model is a 895. Don't know what you have there. Maybe one of the other members can chime in and help.

In my Hollander interchange manual, 1100854 is the 61A alt for almost all '69 Pontiacs. 1100895 is for '70 GP only. 1100700 is the standard 55A part for most every late-'60s GM car that mounts on the left.
My Pontiac parts manual doesn't show these numbers, BTW, only the universal replacement numbers.
