I may be towing a 1979 T/A soon, and I was wondering if anyone could please tell me how wide the tow dolly has to be. I heard from a couple people that the tow dollys that U-haul rents out are not wide enough to fit a 79 T/A on there.

thanks

I towed a '78 T/A with one of these rental tow dollies (back in '92). The car just did fit, but it also had aftermarket rims on it that had a different backspacing from stock, making the 235/60's just barely fit.

I measured my 1978 T/A with WS6 15x8 wheels and 255/60 15 BFG tires, it was 6 feet wide outside of tire to outside of tire.

Fusion--if you plan to tow this car any real distance it is far better to put it on a 2 axle trailer. I've "trailered" my TA well over 6k miles this way.
