If you could buy a IA1 block ready to assemble and save save 1000 to 1300!
Would you buy it?
Or buy the IA2 Block!

I'll bet theres going to be some disgruntled IA1 owners out there. It's kinda like the race stuff I purchased, that know one seems to want!

An IA II will not fit in my worlds fastest pontiac powered street car.

Isn't the pan rail lower on the IA II. With a Moroso 7 quart oil pan it barely touches know.So an IA II wouldn't fit?

Know if I had the worlds fastest tube chassis car that wouldn't be a problem

My new street motor will use an IA 1. Had it gone over several times and it doesnt have any problems. Sonic sheets show almost no shift. Im only boring it to 4.280"-4.330". Not all the IA 1's had problems, but because some did it seems to taint them all.

LIL JACK its only .125 1/8 of an inch pleanty of room! if not I can make the room for you It wont be hard thanks jack. I know of many good IA1 blocks that made lots of power not saying that they are all bad but a lot of them that are BOAT anchors!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't the pan rail lower on the IA II. With a Moroso 7 quart oil pan it barely touches now. Touches what-the ground? An 1/8" shouldn't matter. Plus the Canton trap door pan is better anyway.

So an IA II wouldn't fit? It will

I still have 1 of the first run IA II blocks (not registered mains) $2995.00 plus shipping

Tom - your right - not all IA I blocks are bad -but as Jack has compared several of both series of blocks - he is right - the IA II is hands down a better piece.

I've got 2 of the original IA blocks. One is as manufactured, the other is basically a complete engine. 4.44 bore, and the sonic shows that I could safely go another .005. Filling the block would give me a bunch more. This engine has a 5" billit crank, to make 619 inches. The bare block hasn't been soniced yet, but I don't plan on making more than 541 inches (maybe only 535) out of it, anyway. So you guys with the first IA blocks, they'll make a lot more of an engine than than a stock block!

But given the improvements of the IA-2, and the IA-2 price new, wouldn't that drive the price of a good IA-1 down to $1500-$1800 territory?

i just bought a used IA I complete shortblock for my streeter. Would much rather have it than a stock block. If u guys are throwing away the IAs, I will take them.

I am sure there are a lot of improvements in the new block out now.

Butler has them for 2995.00, plus surcharge of 107.00, then if I remember to finish bore is another 100.00, then plug kit, and oil pump drive! So, 3200.00 either way 3200 or 3300. just a comparison.

IM BUILDING AN IA 1 BLOCK, IV HAD IT CHECKED FOR EVERY POSSIBLE FLAW, IT CHECKED OUT PERFECT, NO THIN SPOTS IN THE BLOCK ACCORDING TO THE SONIC TESTING, NO POROSITY PROBLEMS IN THE BLOCK, NO OIL PASSAGES DRILLED INTO THE WATER JACKETS.I DO HAVE ONE OF THE FIRST RUN BLOCKS, FROM WHAT I HEARD THE RIST RUN BLOCKS WERE FINE, MINE IS A TALL DECK BLOCK AS WELL,IF I RECALL CORRECTLY ACCORDING TO BUTLER ONLY 43 TALL DECK BLOCKS WERE MADE.JUST REMEMBER, ANY AFTERMARKET BLOCK SHOULD BE CHECKE3D OUT, NO MATTER WHAT , BE IT CHEVY, FORD, MOPAR, PONTIAC ETC, WE ALWAYS HAVE THE STOCK BLOCKS CHECKED DONT WE?, AND BESIDES, ANY IA BLOCK IS BETTER THAN A STOCK BLOCK EVEN A WORSE CASE SCENARIO.

If the IA 1 block has no issues, then why not?

Also depends on your final goal and hp needs.

For $1300 difference it might be worth looking into.

But the new redesigned IA 2 block is Awesome and no comparision to the IA 1 block as far as pour, quality, upgrades for more hp and torque capability.

lots of improvments to the Ia2

thicker cylinder walls
Registered mains
Screw in freeze plugs
comes already dry decked
nice tapped flange on the back for water lines
thicker front wall behind the water pump
IA 1 s were ok but they dont compare to the IA2

The best choice (not sure why it wasn't listed)would be to purchase the new IAII block from WWW.ICTCengines.com ...Seriously!!!

It's worth the extra cash to go with the revised block.
