Question Repro alternator belt

I got the Quanta B-3660A from PY to my stock-71 455 Lemans, this belt is for the alternator to a V8 with power steering (3Q-70) and of course it is to long, I think the original belt it 48" and this one is bout 50" (AcDelco says that belt # 15480 would be correct)

Do anyone know the correct part # that would fit as Quanta does not say what lenght their belts are and I have no way to compare them.

I ordered from them one time with the same result, belt was to long. I called and asked about belt lenghts and they could not tell me anything. The customer service person said all I know is what it is suppose to fit. No lenghts, section width or any other info.
I went and bought some Gates Belts and removed the lettering off of them.

Okey, then it was time to open the parts book, all -71 V8 use belt # 539130, that is 3/8 x 48" Quanta sell's belt # 391201 wich is 3/8 x 50" wich is for all -70-72 T/6 P.S.. Bummer, will call them...

Well Dave there was not willing to admit any errors, but 539130 is the same as their B 3664* as they list for V8 with outpower steering and is 47.5" long, should be a perfect fit..

Have to bump this one with a question.

Has anyone here had problems with the lenght of the repro alternator belt ?
My sales guy has never had any problems with them and I think that is pretty strange that I should be the only one as I am running an original setup on my -71.

Yep. I too ordered these belts for my 70 455 conv and the alternator belt is way too long and the PS belt is too short. In the GTO restoration guide the alternator belt is supposed to be 3/8 X 50" and the PS 1/2 X 52". The belts I got which have the right numbers on them, the alternator belt is obviously longer than the PS belt. Once again quality control at some of these places is horrible. Like the supposed correct high pressure PS hose, FAIL. I cant even tell what year it was supposed to fit. Sorry, rant over for now.

Loffen,

Did the 3664 belt fit fine? I had the same problem where I originally ordered the 3660 belt for my 71 TA (per Ames catalog) and it was too long. I sent it back and ordered the 3664 belt and now it is too short. I measured the outside circumference of that belt and came up with 47-3/8". I believe they intend it to be 47-1/2", but it any case, I can't get it over the pulleys.

Yes it did fit perfect with the original pullies, my friend had had a thight fit however.
the solution was to put the belt over the crank and alternator pully first and then use some "raw" power to flip it over the water pump pully.
Once the belt is over the pullies he had to thighten the alternator about 1/2 to 1" from the bottom position.
He has used the car all summer and had no problems, hope this helps.
