Default Carburetor Advice

I am upgrading the 463 in my 63 Tempest with an original wenzler tunnel ram, solid roller, and 310 ported Kauffman Dports. Engine builder wants bigger carbs than the early 60s Buick AFB's I had on my Offy and I agree I need to upgrade. Suggestion is two 750cfm carbs. Anyone have experience and suggestions which models I should go with?

I want to stay within the NSS requirements of an AFB styled carb.

Thanks!

I am running a set of Carter Competition Series 9755S 750cfm on mine.
Mods include, removing choke and milling off choke horn. Hi Flow Edelbrock Needle and Seat Assemblies. Fuel pressure needs to stay at 5.5PSI as it is very easy to over power the Needle and Seats in these.
I am running the original Wenzler on a 440inch, Eheads that flow around 335 CFM, Small Solid Roller.
I have tried the 600's and could not get enough fuel through them. The 750's were good for 3 tenths.

Avoid the Edelbrock versions. They seem to make fuel disappear fast when they sit.

Mopar max wedge (recalibrated) are a great choice but usually pricey. Carters original "Competition Series" 4761 or 4762(chokeless and calibrated for dual quad apps ) are a great starting point as are the 9755 carbs Mike Davis suggested.

A note on choke horn removal... depending on air filter base or scoop pan, and how air gets directed, can impact how bleeds behave.

I have a 4761 minus choke tower that could stand to have primary throttle shaft bushed and know where a 9755 is that is probably for sale(seems good condition and missing choke plate and choke linkage) My other 4761 may still be at a friends place. It was NOS never used till he borrowed it.(I have his Holley for ransom) I'll check up on it.

Too bad you cant run Holleys... a pair of 750's mech or vac secondaries would work well.

750 Edelbrock's would be my suggestion. I ran them for 15 year on a bathtub and now a guts ram. My current engine dynoed 924 hp with them. I changed to the 800 cfm Edlebrocks and didn't gain any E.T.

X2 - the max wedge carbs will dial in MUCH easier than other carbs on a Pontiac engine.

Second choice would be:

4759s - 625 CFM with manual choke
4760s - 750 CFM with manual choke
4762s - 750 CFM with no choke

Jon.

Joe, just curious, did you dyno the engine with the 750 and 800 carbs. Just curious if you saw dyno numbers but not track results.

I remember that testing Joe.

750 carbs dialed in ran great.

Swap to the (new at the time) 800s and no change in et on the track.
If I remember right the testing had to be at Norwalk years ago.
