Date Code question
What does the letter "K" represent on a starter? Oct or November (i.e. was "I" skipped in the sequence)
Also is the answer the same for block, head and exhaust manifold casting dates? |

On stamped codes, the 'K' is October. ('I' is not used)
On cast in codes (like block, heads) 'K' is November. ('I' is used)

One more question on an assembly date....
My 72 GTO has an assembly date of 11C which means third week of November, 1971. Is that the Sunday through Saturday (14th -20th) or 15th day - 21 st day? I know some dont care about these details but I enjoy all the documentation stuff. |

I could be wrong but I isn’t always skipped it was only certain years I have seen casting dates with an I in them
Here’s an example https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...84#post6150584 The pic I chose may be incorrect may just be a obliterated by the plug but the thread w the manifold describes it and I’ve seen others post about an I being used for date coded parts on certain years

I just saw a lengthy post about the I being skipped or not a few days ago maybe in a RAI RAII conversation . And I can’t find it searching now . I is used so much for other things it makes searching it hard. But the basic jist was that it is used in some instances. Wish I could find it for you guys.

Hmm...Always thought that was the assembly date time. Interesting.
If actual final assembly date is in box #10 on build sheet then it was Nov 16 which still falls during the week 11C |

That pic is of a CAST date code, which would have an 'I' for a month. There was however one year (1967?) that they had a 'M' (for December?). May be the thread you are thinking of. Something about overlapping of model years? (start of 1968 model in 1967, but still building 1967 model year? Like 1st year of Firebird?)
