Default Faster on motor?, or slower on motor and add more nitrous??

I have been thinking about this for a while. The benifits of a nitrous cam. Whats better to build a nitrous motor that for the sake of topic runs 11.50's raw and low 10's on the bottle or a motor that runs mid to high 10's raw and add nitrous to run low 10's on the same shot....I would realy like to run much faster raw and pick up a little more on the bottle than run considerably slower on motor and have to use alot of nitrous to regain. It almost seems pointless in this case to have a nitrous cam made when you can run a non nitrous cam, run faster on motor and still run as fast with the same amount of nitrous. the reason i have been thinking about this is there is a guy that i race occasionaly that runs high 10's on motor and adds a 175 shot and runs 10.0's Hmm....any thoughts???

Cool

Let's put it this way:

Small amounts of nitrous won't apply to below.

The faster you go with the same gear you run on motor the higher the rpm on nitrous and faster thru the traps. So you have to take gear out of the car to mantain decent rpm thru the traps. So now........ will the car run as fast on motor with less gear?

Next. Converter. When you spray nitrous you are increasing hp, so the converter set up will change as in more flash on the bottle. The converter will go loose. So now you have to tighten up the converter. Do you think the car will now leave as hard with less stall?

Next Cam: I have run quite a few cams with 110 LS into the mid to low 9's with a 350 shot and street tires. No issues. Does the car run faster with a 114/117 L.S. on spray. Yes. Will it kill the car on Motor, yes.to a point depend on how big it is and how radical the combo is?

Pro Stock engines run 114 or greater LS. N/A.

It's not so much making less HP on motor as it is changing the drivetrain to run a quicker ET and not run out of gear or rpms.
The more ya change to Nitrous 'in the whole car' the slower it will be on motor, but will more then pick it up in the overal package.
But ya still have to make hp to make more hp with spray.
What ends up happening is you will reach a point of no gain no matter how much sparay ya put in it. Every combo is different, but changing over to a nitrous friendly package let's it take more with improvements.

Works the same way as a cam and stock heads. You reach a point of diminishing return

To add to that, a true nitrous setup will drive much better on the street as well. Less gear and a tighter converter is great on the street.

Also, when running at the track, make a motor pass, let the other racers see the numbers, then step up to the bottle for the $$ runs.

I run a 150shot with my 67 GTO to play it safe. On motor it ran a best of 11.5@118. On Nitrous a best pass of 10.8@121. Most of the time it will do 11.0 flat on 150shot. Very conservative tune also.

Running box stock 87CC Eheads with CC292 cam in a 462ci. 3000 stall with 3:73 gears and turbo 400.
