Default Edelbrock Valvetrain parts??

Anyone know if the Edelbrock valves/parts used in the 72cc d-port are same parts used in the 72cc round port heads? I'm assuming they are but just wanted to double check

Edelbrock offers the both the D port head and the RPM head in a standard hydro version and a hydro roller version .

I know both the standard D port and the RPM head springs are rated for the same .575” lift, and if they both use the same spring I can’t say without further investigating the valve lengths used.

If I'm reading that correctly, looks like the 72cc d-port uses same valves as the 87cc round port. That seems odd to me??

i thought from what i had read, the round ports use a longer valve than the d ports, they use.

I can't speak for their d-port heads but if it helps here are the lengths for early round port version of the Edelbrock RPM heads as delivered by Edelbrock.

87cc version
5.093" intake / 5.110" exhaust

72cc version
5.213" intake / 5.230" exhaust

Keep in mind these are the reported lengths of the valves used by Edelbrock themselves in their assembled cylinder heads, in 1999.
Some aftermarket valve lengths will vary slightly for the same application.

I just find it really interesting the shorter valves are in the 72cc d-ports. I really expected all 72ccheads had same valves and 86cc was same.

What Steve posted in #8 is correct.

In terms of the round port rpm heads that difference of .120" between the two valves is the difference in chamber depth between the 87 CC head and the 72 CC head.

Eddy 87 cc chambers were machined deeper from 72 castings so used a shorter valve since they came out. Weren't 71-72 HO heads made with shorter valves than the RAIVs also with their deeper chamber?
6X were even shorter than early D ports with the deeper chamber they have.
My guess to keep IH on springs and relation of rocket to valve tip the same to use the same pushrod lengths.

To me the 72cc d-port and round port look the same (which makes sense but maybe I'm wrong) so if the chambers are the same then the d-port must have a lower bowl roof to make up for the shorter valve or the spring pocket is cut deeper.

RAIV chambers are supper shallow 72cc and a #16/62 etc 72cc are deeper as they are not as large a diameter. Maybe the pocket is a little lower on the D port E head vs the round port ones?

Do they take a shorter head bolt?
