Default Kawasaki Z1000 returns home

I was recently contacted by a guy who purchased my old Z1000

It looks as good as I did when I got it in about 1980.
I had this bike for approx 17 years, sold it in 1997 to a guy and told him to give me 1st option to buy ,he wanted 10k for it so he did not take my offer of 5k(the price I sold it to him for..)

This other guy picked it up and got my details and wanted some history and he did visit me today..
A real blast from the past

Cool! I had a KZ100, and a KZ400 late 70's . When I got on my 82 Virago 750 midnight special though, the 1000 seemed like a tank that "hunted" ( steering)
Your bike defined bikes for over a decade, very nice ride!

In the mid-late 70s, I had several bikes. I had a Kawasaki 750H2, a Suzuki GT-380 and a Suzuki GT-550, all two stroke triples.

I liked the Suzuki GT-550 the most. The 750H2 was incredibly fast but treacherous to ride. I miss my bikes.

I remember riding on the back of my Dad's Mach III. he sold it before it killed him and decided he was done with motor cycles after that one. The bug rubbed off on me and in 1986 after years of riding dirt bikes I bought my first crotch rocket. 1986 Suzuki GSXR 1100. That thing was a monster back in the day.

I bought a new KZ650 back in 1977. Same color as yours. I added a set of JR headers and rejetted the carbs and it was bad.....for the day. At the time there wasn't a 750 made that would stay with it. 20,000 HARD trouble free miles and 3 years later I got rid of it to help finance a new VW Scirocco. I think they had the same horsepower.........

Hi Chris
The pic did not work,I have that problem..

It is great to hear from men who owned these classic Jap bikes.

I did race bikes for 17 years half on the dirt flat track style ,then road racing.

My 1st race bike (all production racers) 1981 GSX750 2nd hand with 2000K's
Next was a GPZ750 1982 brand new..won many a club championship on that one
Next was a Eddie Lawson replicia Z1000 green meanie.
And last was a kawasaki H2 tripple, this was raced as a post classic class bike

a few other honerable mentions

1994 harley FXR
1995 harley FXD convert.
1942WLA

Suzuki GSX1100,GPZ1100 ,GPZ900,ZIR1000, and many dirt bikes mostly CR's and an old TM suzuki and a now classic DT250MX

Due to bad back and cancer 10 years ago I sold my Harley this year

Thumbs up Ninja Baby!

Nice bike Ozzie. Congrats on getting it back.

Here is a picture of my last “moped” – a GPz 900 “Ninja” - with 20,000 miles at time of photo. Purchased it new and put the 20k on it before selling it to fund the purchase of a (still owned) 1979 Y84 400/4-spd TA. Lot’s of great memories and trips enjoyed with this awesome Kawasaki motorcycle. Lots of seat time previously on KZ900’s and Honda Super Sport bikes before this one. Kawi’s have always been a favorite for me.

Nice bike! I worked at a Kawasaki dealer in the early 80's. I was assembling them out of the crate and servicing them. I've had many-a-bike since then, the last of which was a ZX-11. I loved it!!!

Great looking 1000. $10,000 seems a bit high. When I was 17 my first street bike was a Kawi H2 750 Triple 2 stroke. The bike was way to fast & did not handle. I am lucky I did'nt kill myself on it.

$10k does seem to be on the high side, but early Z1/Z1000 bikes are highly collectible. Also, I don't know what the market is like for them in Australia.

I always liked them but was more of a Suzuki fan; among others I have a GT750, a GS1000S, and a first year Katana.
