400 WA block
A friend has a 77 400 WA block missing crank and caps. He's asking 200., but I really don't have an interest, especially since it's missing it's bottom. Would this block be a 557? And second, I have a 455 crank. Would my crank require a lot of work to be used in this block?

I'd pass on it.
For what it would cost to fit caps, you could buy an earlier and MUCH stronger block.
And the 455 crank in that block is a no-go, both size-wise and money-wise. You'd waste a bunch of money making it fit and the forged 4" and 4.25" cranks are stronger and a better value. If you could get the block for FREE, you could paint it and make it into a table with a glass top. Otherwise it's a boat anchor. Good luck! |

Yes you have there a 557 block with the thinner bulk head walls.
With the cost of getting a stock 455 Crank in there (which can be done) and the cost of getting new main caps and then having them installed your just better off finding a 1964 and up 421 or a 428 or 455 motor to drop that Crank in or if your not looking to make over 500 hp then find another 557 block , which is the cheapest way to go and then get a new cast 455 Crank with the mains size needed ( 3.00" ) to drop in a 400 block.
