On the 81 camaro, a 325/50 on a 15x10 5.5 bs wheel was used when the car still had the stock leaf/cal trac set up. A 315 could fit, only after the car was ladder bar'd.
A 295/65 will fit, but it may require notching the front of the wheel wells. A 325 m/t is 28" tall about 11 inches wide. The bfgs were only about 10.7 wide A 295 m/t is 29" tall about 10.5 inches wide on a 10" wheel. My 315s measured 30 inches tall and 12 inches wide on a 10" wheel, not sure how much a 12" wheel will stretch them out yet. |

Yup, the 325/50 is the largest without cutting the wheelwell.

So i would be safe with a 295 and a 10 inch wide wheel with 5.5 backspacing?

The 295 is kinda tall, it may very well rub the wheelwell in the front and rear.
I know Pontiac Dude had to do a little cutting to make them fit. |

They fit on my 74 Firebird but very tight - about 3/4 of an inch front to back. Make sure the rear stays in place.

I had to trim for tire growth. First time I put 10.5 X 29.5 X15 ET streets on (and had the same 3/4" to 1" clearance) they ripped the flair off and the stud that sticks out of the body put a nice 5/32" wear indicator all the way around the tire. LOL. |

the 275/60/15 works nice for me ...if you corner it hard it wil rub a teeny bit.

Watching Ken's car on a Chassis Dyno, it was clear how much they grow at speed. (And the car was tied down too)

I run 15X10's on my second gen with 5" backspacing. They are pretty close on the inside, I would do some careful measuring before I would try 5.5 backspace. I run 26 X11.50 X15 ET streets.

well i am cutting out the bump at the front of the wheelwell. So i think i 295/65 15 will be fine then. The M/t dont grow any do they? i will have about 3/4 of an inch with this tall of a tire.

I have BFG 295 65 15's, they are 29.9" tall and fit relatively well. Just rolled the lip and persuaded the bump with a 16# persuader. 8.5" rims, I can measure the back space. I still have 1/2"-1" space left on inside. I have WS6 springs tho, just a bit stiffer.

Sure I can take some more if you need to see something else. They arent MT's but they are big, more tall than wide. Here it is launching and at rest with the weight on the rear. its a completely stock rear suspension, just with WS6 springs. I really need to get the backspace from those wheels.
Need anything else, just let me know. |

How well do they hook for you?? I have seen guys running 275's pulling the front wheels. I am going to go with the m/t 295/65's and i hope they stick as well as my 28/9 m/t slicks did.

It ran mid-high 11's with 1.6-1.7 60 fts, but they are BFG and I hear that MT's hook alot better. The front end of my car has been lightened quite a bit, no bumper, no fenderwells, manual steering box, 90/10 shocks, no swaybar, AC/heater removed, battery relocated. It was 3470 wet w/o me before the engine swap, but I still needed 1/4 tank gas to make it hook.
Have you done an alignment? I repacked the wheelbearings, turned the rotors, rebuilt the calipers, dialed in 2.5 degrees caster, 0 camber, 0 toe with the front end raised 2.5"-3" above static and picked up .4 in the 1/4 If I can get the backspace and clearance of the tires I have today, I will post them up. It will be this weekend at the earliest if I dont get it today. |
