Returning to the original question about exhaust manifolds, 56-58 driver side manifolds dumped to the front thereby avoiding the steering box and master cylinder. An elbow was attached to the front of the manifold. This elbow turned down and the exhaust pipe was attached to it. It was then low enough to pass under the steering box. If you used 57-58 manifolds you would not have to worry about moving the engine to provide clearance for the exhaust. The elbow is available as a repro from Ames. Just a thought.
