There are larger OD needle bearing style pilot bushings out there for Pontiac and other applications.

I wouldn't recommend using the typical bronze bushing with the Tremec trans. It uses a tapered input bearing that requires precise location of the input and is not very forgiving, which is why dialing in the bellhousing is so important with these transmissions. Muncie just uses a regular ball bearing for input support so it's not critical.
