I yanked the distributor to have a closer look. As Steve25 points out, the steel post that is supposed to hold one of the weights in place is missing. I found it at the bottom of the distributor along with the spring, white plastic post bushing and button that goes under the weight. Unfortunately the post is of a press in type and the hole is no longer an interference fit. I suppose I could pull the shaft out and weld the stud in from the underside, but I don't like the thought of what that might do to the spinning assembly when I do the smokey burnouts for i82much. Reality tells me this distributor needs to be replaced. Also yes....... it does have spindly soft springs. Nothing good to say about this one. Time is not on its side.
